The all-time Easterns boys and girls performance lists … 1934 through 2024!!!!!!

Easterns is nowhere near the meet it used to be. Once upon a time, before Ocean Breeze and the Ott Center, the Armory was the only place to run fast late in the indoor season, and Easterns was where you went to run fast.

A look at the all-time winners and the all-time performance list shows a meet that was as deep as any indoor meet in the country for quite a while. Now, it’s just another meet.

A look at the seeds – click here for the performance list – shows some events literally have no elite entrants and others have just a couple.

But there will be a handful of top South Jersey athletes at the Armory tonight for the 89th annual meet, among them: Deptford pole vaulter Marcus Hood and hurdler Ryan Sanchez, Eastern middle-distance runner Natalie Dumas, Jasmine Jackson, Ma’Syiah and all the other Winslow stars, Willingboro sprinter and hurdler Nester Sea and St. Augustine sprinter Julian Onesty, Paul VI miler Macy Huber, Delsea shot putter Jonathan Harris, Washington Township hurdler Dakota Jones and shot putter Ella Karp and Paul VI 800 runner Christian Napoli (who will run the mile).

Here’s a look at the all-time Easterns performance list. All-time winners (going back to 1934) coming later this afternoon.

HIGH JUMPER EGYPT BOLAN BECOMES LINDENWOLD’S 1ST MEET OF CHAMPIONS WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Junior Egypt Bolan became Lindenwold’s first meet of Champions winner Sunday when she was the only competitor in the high jump to clear 5-8.

Bolan didn’t have a miss until she had the title clinched. She was clean at 5-2, 5-4, 5-6 and 5-8 and didn’t miss until she had the bar raised to 5-9, which would have been a PR.

Bolan is the 5th South Jersey girl to win the Meet of Champions high jump in the last six years it’s been contested. Timber Creek’s Tierra Hooker won at 5-8 in 2019, Millville’s Bryanna Craig at 5-6 in 2020 and Alanna Woolfolk of Clayton won at 5-6 in 2022 and 5-8 in 2024. The meet wasn’t held in 2021.

Bolan, in her first year of indoor track, has cleared 5-8 in four of her last five meets, winning Group 2 sectional and state titles along the way. Her PR coming into the season was a 5-5 in her first meet last spring.

Hooker holds the South Jersey indoor record of 5-10, set at the 2018 Ocean Breeze Invitational. Bolan is among seven jumpers who are tied for No. 2 in South jersey history at 5-8.

Bolan is the 5th South Jersey girl to clear 5-8 at a Meet of Champions, which equals the No. 7 mark in meet history. Carol Lewis of Willingboro in 1981, Gabrielle Bennett of Winslow in 2015, Hooker in 2018 and 2019 and Woolfolk last year all also won at 5-8.

Bolan is just the third South Jersey to clear 5-8 or higher indoors, following Hooker at 5-9 in 2019 and Woolfolk at 5-8 in 2023.

Jayden DeLeon becomes first S.J. high jumper to win indoor Meet of Champions in 10 years!!!!!!!!

Highland senior Jayden DeLeon became South Jersey’s first Meet of Champions high jump champ in 10 years Sunday at Ocean Breeze.

DeLeon, No. 11 in state history with his 6-10 ¼ clearance at sectionals, was the only competitor to clear 6-6. That made him the first South Jersey jumper to win the indoor MoC since Pleasantville’s Tyriq Adams cleared 6-8 in 2015 at the Bubble.

The last jumper from Camden County to win an indoor Meet of Champions was Cherry Hill West’s Terry Ferguson, who cleared 6-10 in 1987 at Jadwin Gym.

Edison senior David Brown, New Jersey’s other 6-10 jumper this year, placed 2nd at 6-4. Neither 6-8 jumper cleared 6-6 and only one of the four 6-6 jumpers cleared 6-4.

Brown is the only high jumper to defeat DeLeon this year. That happened at a SJTCA meet at the Ott Center in December, where Brown – who had a 6-2 PR last year – cleared 6-10 and DeLeon 6-6. His last loss to a South Jersey jumper was at last year’s Woodbury Relays, where he cleared 6-2 and was 3rd, behind Teron Murray of Camden [6-6] and Cinnaminson’s Derrick Robinson [6-2].

DeLeon is Highland’s 4th Meet of Champions winner. Kevin Pumphrey won the 3,200 in 1986 in 9:15.76, Steve Mazur won the 3,200 in 1992 in 9:32.71 and Floyd Whitaker doubled the horizontal jumps with 23-5 ½ and 46-3 ¼ in 2020.

Moorestown’s Hannah Byrd-Leitner becomes South Jersey’s 1st indoor Meet of Champions pole vault winner!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moorestown senior Hannah Byrd-Leitner became the first South Jersey girl ever to win the Meet of Champions pole vault Sunday at Ocean Breeze.

Byrd-Leitner, the Meet of Champions winner outdoors in June with her PR 13-2, cleared 12-6 Sunday. She had just recorded an indoor PR of 13-0 when she won the state Group 3 title at the Bubble a week earlier.

Byrd-Leitner passed up through 10-6 and then cleared 11-0, 11-6 and 12-0 on her 1st attempt. With the bar going up to 12-6, only Byrd-Leitner and Dumont junior Jenna Monaco were still in the competition, although Monaco had two misses at 11-6. Byrd-Leitner cleared 12-6 on her 2nd attempt and Monaco failed to clear the bar, giving Byrd-Leitner the win.

She took three attempts at a meet-record 13-0 but didn’t clear. Her 3rd attempt was her best, and she just grazed the bar on the way down, knocking it off the standards. Pingry’s Caroline Dannenbaum set the meet record of 12-7 in 2020.

The pole vault has been held at the Meet of Champions since 2005. The first 20 years, the best South Jersey jumpers were Millville’s Melissa Gale [2nd in 2006 at 11-6], Delsea’s Ashley Preston [2nd in 2018 at 12-6] and Haddonfield’s Rebecca Hoover [2nd in 2024 at 12-0].

Byrd-Leitner is Moorestown’s first indoor Meet of Champions winner in 26 years, since Amandi Rhett won the 55 in 7.13 in 1999.

Moorestown’s other indoor MoC winners were all high jumpers: Sandy Tokoto in 1990 [5-6] and 1991 [5-4] and Shatich Rivers in 1994 [5-6].

Hoover placed 3rd Sunday at 11-6 and three South Jersey jumpers – Haddon Township senior Emersen Levins, Paul VI junior Gianna Cianfrani and Pennsville senior Megan Morris – all had identical series and tied for 9th at 10-6.

Hammonton’s Anthony Liakhnovich moves into all-time S.J. shot put top-10 with 2nd-place finish at Meet of Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hammonton senior Anthony Liakhnovich popped the 10th-best shot put in South Jersey history Sunday at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze.

Liakhnovich, sitting in 4th place with two throws to go at 59-8 ¾, threw 62-6 ¾ on his 5th attempt to move up to 2nd, which is where he finished, behind only Delbarton senior Peter Donini, who threw 63-7 and had the three-best throws of the competition.

Liakhnovic, Meet of Champions discus runner-up last spring at 181-3, broke his own Atlantic County record of 61-1 from January at the Ott Center.

His 62-6 ¾ makea him the No. 15 performer in Meet of Champions. It’s the best throw by a South Jersey athlete at an indoor Meet of Champions in 13 years, since Braheme Days Jr. of Bridgeton won the 2012 meet at the Bubble with a 67-8 ¾. The only other superior MoC thrower from South Jersey is another Bridgeton weight star, Ray Wilks, who won the 1995 meet at Jadwin Gym at 62-7 ½. So all three from the Cape-Atlantic.

The beat throw at an indoor Meet of Champions by a non-Cape Atlantic thrower was a 61-3 at the 2013 meet by West Deptford’s Nick Pulli.

Also Sunday, Delsea senior Jonathan Harris placed 7th with a 56-7 3/4.

Winslow boys run 3rd-fastest 4-by-4 in South Jersey history, Dominic Bassey & Jayden Poteat both also race into all-time S.J. top-10 in individual events!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winslow Township’s Prince Owusu-Twum, KaRon Ali, Dominic Bassey and Jayden Poteat ran the 6th-fastest 1,600-meter relay in state history Sunday at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze.

Winslow ran 3:15.97 and placed 2nd to Toms River North, which won in 3:15.70.

Owusu-Twum led off with a 49.67 split, Ali ran 48.66, Bassey contributed a 49.36 leg and Poteat anchored in 48.29, according to the lineup listed in the official results.

The only faster times in South Jersey history belong to Camden, which ran 3:15.78 when it won 2001 Easterns at the Armory, and Pennsauken, which ran 3:15.83 when it won the 2023 Meet of Champions, also at Ocean Breeze. That stood as the MoC record until Sunday.

Winslow’s time is 3rd-fastest in Meet of Champions history. The seven-fastest Meet of Champions 4-by-4 times in meet history have all been recorded in the last three years and all at Ocean Breeze.

Poteat also placed 2nd in the 400 in 48.43, which is the 5th-fastest time in South Jersey history and 9th-fastest in meet history.

Also in that 400, Clayton senior Alexander Osayemi placed 4th in 48.57, the fastest time ever run by a South Jersey Group 1 athlete. The previous fastest was a 48.64 by Florence’s Keith Griffith at the 2010 Metropolitan Coaches Invitational at the Armory. Osayemi also broke the Gloucester County record of 48.96 set at the 2023 Meet of Champions by Deptford’s Lathan Brown. His time is also 12th-fastest in MoC history.

Northern Burlington senior Darryl Pitt ran a school-record 49.78 and placed 7th Sunday. That’s fastest by a Burlington County runner in the 400 indoors in eight years, since Moorestown’s Brandon Outlaw ran 47.90 at 2017 Armory Nationals.

And Bassey ran a PR 1:54.05 and placed 7th in the 800. That’s 8th-fastest in South Jersey history and lowers Bassey’s own Camden County record

Mainland’s Josiah Williams, Winslow’s Arterial Evans record huge final-attempt triple jump PRs at Meet of Champions to move into all-time South Jersey top-10!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a huge day Sunday for triple jumpers Josiah Williams of Mainland Regional and Artrill Evans of Winslow Township, who both moved into the top 10 in South Jersey history with big performances at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze.

Williams and Evans both jumped personal bests of 46-4 ½ on their final attempt, Williams getting 5th over Evans on the basis of superior 2nd-best jumps – 45-10 for Williams and 45-1 ½ for Evans.

Going into Sunday, Williams had a PR of 45-8 from a meet at the Ott Center last month, and Evans, a transfer from Camden Eastside, had a PR of 44-11 ¾ from his only previous meet this year, last month at Ocean Breeze.

Williams smashed that PR with that 45-10 on his 3rd attempt, and after a 45-0 ½ and a foul, he popped his 46-4 ½ – a 6 ½-inch PR. Evans also PR’d on his 3rd attempt with his 45-1 ½ before moving up from 7th to 6th with his final-jump PR.

Williams and Evans are now tied for 10th in South Jersey history. Williams improved on his own Atlantic County record. They are tied for 8th place on the all-time Meet of Champions triple jump performance list. Williams also placed 10th in the long jump with a 21-7.

Three other South Jersey jumpers finished in the top 12.

Rancocas Valley senior Adris Lewis jumped a lifetime-best 44-9 on his 2nd attempt and missed the finals by one inch, finishing 9th overall. Moorestown senior Ezra Williams-Thomas sailed 44-8 ½ for 11th, and Bridgeton senior Zamir Chance, down to his final attempt after fouling twice, jumped 44-4 ¾ for 12th place.

Williams-Thomas is the co-Burlington County indoor county record holder with his 45-3 ½ from last month at the Ott Center; R.V.’s Zakiyy Williams hit 45-3 ½ at the Armory in 2025. Lewis is 2nd on that list his 44-9. Chance is the Cumberland County record holder with his 45-4 in the same meet at the Ott.

MIND-BLOWING PR LANDS PAUL VI’S MACY HUBER 7TH IN MEET OF CHAMPIONS 1,600!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a remarkable breakthrough race Sunday for Paul VI junior Macy Huber, who didn’t break 5:15 this past spring, didn’t break 5:10 for the first time until two weeks ago and went into the Meet of Champions with a PR of 5:05.15.

Now she’s one of the fastest in South Jersey history.

Huber ran a preposterous 8 ½-second PR and placed 7th in the fastest Meet of Champions 1,600 ever with 4:56.87 at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.

Huber is the 9th South Jersey girl to run sub-5 at the indoor Meet of Champions, and her time is No. 28 in meet history and 12th-fastest by a South Jersey miler. The race produced the fastest times in meet history for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. and seven of the 28-fastest times in meet history.

The only South Jersey girls to run sub-4:57 at the Meet of Champions over the last nine years are Huber and her former teammate Shaelan McNally, who ran 4:52.90 last year and is now a freshman at Bucknell.

Huber didn’t race this indoor season until late January and only ran two races before states, including a 11:04.83 full two miles at Ocean Breeze last month that was an encouraging sign of her fitness. At Parochial A states, she placed 4th in the 1,600 in 5:05.15 and 3rd in the 3,200 in 11:08.44.

Her 4:56.76 is 12th-fastest in South Jersey history and 5th-fastest in Camden County history.

PAUL VI’S CHRISTIAN NAPOLI, WINSLOW’S DOMINIC BASSEY RACE THEIR WAY INTO ALL-TIME SOUTH JERSEY TOP-10 AT 800 METERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul VI senior Christian Napoli and Winslow senior Dominic Bassey both raced their way into the all-time South Jersey top-10 at 800 meters at the 57th annual Meet of Champions Sunday at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.

Napoli ran ran 1:53.59 and placed 5th, and Bassey ran 1:54.05 and placed 7th. They now rank 7th and 9th on the all-time South Jersey indoor 800-meter performance list.

Napoli broke the Camden County record of 1:54.54 set last month at Ocean Breeze by Bassey. And Bassey lowered his own PR but lost his county record. Napoli and Bassey are now No. 1 and 2 in Camden County indoor history.

Napoli only ran 1:59.00 last spring and had a PR of 1:57.25 from his win at Parochial A states last weekend. He’s lowered his PR from 1:59.00 to 1:53.59 – about 5 ½ seconds – since Jan. 22.

Bassey ran 1:52.15 last year when he placed 2nd at Group 3 states, fastest by a Camden County half-miler in 46 years. But he opted for the intermediate hurdles at the Meet of Champions and placed 4th with a 53.35.

Napoli’s time is 6th-fastest ever run by a South Jersey half-miler at the Meet of Champions, and Bassey’s is 8th-fastest.

The race the fastest times for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th place in meet history.

Pleasantville’s Melvin Lewis ran a big indoor PR 1:57.25 in the first of three 800 heats and finished 12th overall. WOodstown junior Joshua Crawford, the state Group 1 champ, lowered his PR about 1 1/2 seconds to 1:57.65 in the 2nd heat and lowered his own Salem County record and finished 14th overall.Ocean City senior Kal Heyman, who didn’t break 2:03 until last month, ran 1:58.28 in the first heat and finished 18th overall. And Haddonfield junior Aaron Keith also ran sub-1:59, placing 21st in 1:58.64. Heyman doesn’t appear in the results at states, so not sure what happened to advance him to the Meet of Champs or whether there was a mistake in the results, but he took advantage of the opportunity with a big PR.

NATALIE DUMAS RACES TO MEET OF CHAMPIONS 400 WIN AND BREAKS 22-YEAR-OLD SOUTH JERSEY RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eastern junior Natalie Dumas won her 3rd Meet of Champions title Sunday and demolished a 22-year-old South Jersey record along the way.

Dumas won the 400-meter dash at the 57th annual Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island in 53.55, the 4th-fastest time in state history and nearly three-quarters of a second faster than the South Jersey indoor record of 54.24 set in 2003 by Willingboro’s Okechi Ogbuokiri when she won the 400 at 2003 Armory Nationals.

The only girl to run faster in Meet of Champions history is Olympic gold medalist and 400 hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin of Union Catholic, who won the 2016 race at the Bubble in 53.34 and the 2017 race in 53.17, both in Toms River.

The fastest previous time at a Meet of Champions by a South Jersey girl is a 55.19 by Oakcrest’s Nijgia Snapp when she won the 2008 race, also in Toms River.

Dumas displayed rare range this year, running 24.41 for 200 meters and 2:11.42 for 800 meters. But she chose the 400 for Meet of Champions and it paid off with the fastest time by a New Jersey quarter-miler since Olympic 800 gold medalist Athing Mu of Trenton ran 52.55 in 2018.

Her indoor 400 PR going in was a 54.45 in January at the Ott Center. She ran a lifetime-best 53.16 to win the Meet of Champions last spring at Pennsauken as part of a rare double that saw her also win the 400 hurdles in 58.32. Both times were No. 7 in state history at the time. She went on to win the 400 intermediates at West Philly Nationals in 58.32 the nezt day, 4th-fastest in state history.

In the 400 Sunday, she took on Taylor Aska of Union Catholic, who ran 53.90 last spring and 54.01 indoors last month; Gina Certo of Academy of the Holy Angels, who was 2nd to Dumas in last year’s outdoor MoC in 54.70; and Willingboro‘s Nester Wea, the state Group 2 champ last week.

Dumas started at the top of the track in Lane 6 and Wea and Aska both went out very fast. But Dumas turned on the jets on the second turn and strode in front of Wea and Aska at the break, hitting the 200 in 25.10, already with a three-meter lead. And she just poured it on from there running the second lap unchallenged, with her lead growing to 10 meters by the finish.

Aska finished 2nd in 54.85, Certo was 3rd in 55.47 and Wea 4th in 55.52, 9th-fastest in South Jersey history. The race produced four of the 12-fastest times in meet history.

Winslow sophomore Cinniya Robinson and Paul VI junior Claire Magee made it four South Jersey runners in the top 10. Robinson ran 56.81 for 8th and Magee 56.96 for 10th.

According to the MileSplit national database, Dumas’s time is No. 2 in the U.S. this winter, behind only junior Brooke Lloyd of Humble (Texas) Summer Creek High. Lloyd ran 53.45 in a meet in Lubbock in January.

Dumas also ran a 54.17 anchor leg on Eastern’s 4th-place 1,600-meter relay team. Junior Adriana Marella senior Samantha Osei-Kyei and senior Jasmine Davies ran the first three legs. Eastern ran 3:54.64, lowering the school record from 3:54.69 from the 2023 Meet of Champions.

Dumas is Eastern’s 4th Meet of Champions winner, following English Gardner [55 in 2007 and 2010, 400 in 2007], Courtney McCrudden [800 in 2000] and Jailya Ash [55 in 2019, hurdles in 2020]
