Washington Township seiors Ajani Dwyer and Yashahya Brown, junior John Santos and senior Aidan Ellis ran the fastest 400-meter relay in New Jersey this year to open the Tri-County Conference Championships Wednesday at Delsea.

The Minutemen won a very fast race in 41.77 – 17th-fastest in South Jersey history – with Deptford 2nd in 42.14 and Glassboro 3rd in 42.27. Williamstown also ran sub-43 with a 42.89 for 4th place.

The only faster times in Gloucdester County history belong to Deptford, with a 41.47 to win the 2018 Meet of Champions at Northern Burlington and a 41.55 to place 3rd at 2017 Greensboro Nationals.

Washington Township’s previous school record was a 42.11 in the prelims of West Philly Nationals with only Brown, Santos and graduated seniors Quasir Robinson and John Williams.

Washington Township, Deptford and Glassboro recorded the fastest, 4th-fastest and 7th-fastest times in New Jersey this year and No. 3, No. 8 and No. 16 in Gloucester County history. Glassboro’s time is fastest this year by any New Jersey Group 1 school.

Senior Darryl Wayman, sophomore Kareem Brown, senior Ryan Gore and junior Tyaire Randells ran for Deptford, senior Brysheen Ferguson, freshman Xavier Sabb, sophomore Amari Sabb and senior Cartrell Moore for Glassboro and sophomore Jasiah Gibbons, freshman Ian Israel, senior Gordon Pinnock and senior Alex Hollimon.

Glassboro senior Damere Lassiter had a monster double at the Delsea Crusader Field Meet Tuesday night, PR’ing with a 60-11 ¼ in the shot put and winning the discus with a season-best 180-3. Both throws came on his final attempt.

Lassiter became the 7th thrower in South Jersey history to hit 60 feet in the shot and 180 feet in the discus in the same meet and the first ever in Group 1.

Lassiter is now No. 5 in New Jersey this year in the shot and No. 3 in the discus and No. 1 in both events in Group 1. He’s the first Group 1 thrower in New Jersey to hit 60 and 180 since Saddle Brook’s Giovanni Gutierrez in 2017 [62-8 ¾, 187-8].

He has a 184-8 to his credit from last year’s South Jersey Group 1 sectionals at Pennsauken. He did hit 60 feet indoors with a 60-1 to win Easterns at the Armory in February, but the 60-11 ¼ is a PR.

His 184-8 is the best throw by a South Jersey Group 1 athlete since Penns Grove’s Russell Willitt threw 185-10 at the 1985 Bridgeton Relays [held that year at Cumberland Regional in Upper Deerfield Township], and his 60-11 ¼ is best in South Jersey Group 1 since Paulsboro’s Jon Kalnas hit 64-10 ¼ at the 1997 Meet of Champions.

Lassiter is the 4th South Jersey thrower to hit 60 feet this year, joining Hammonton junior Anthony Liakhnovich [62-10 at the South Jersey Open], Pennsauken senior Jayden Farmer [61-3 at the Camden County Championships] and Delsea junior Jonathan Harris [60-9 ½ at Woodbury]. That’s the most ever in a single year.

Harris was 2nd in the shot Tuesday with a 60-3 ½ Delsea senior Greg Masso got within a few inches of 60 feet with a PR 59-8 ¾ – on his final throw.

In the disc, Willingboro senior Derrick Swain PR’d with a 163-8, and Paulsboro senior Javion Payne made it three over 160 feet with a lifetime-best 161-0, which is No. 2 in New Jersey Group 1 behind Lassiter.

Rancocas Valley junior Cecilia King, who just broke 15 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles for the first time less than two weeks ago, moved into the all-time Burlington County top-10 Tuesday night at the Olympic Conference Championships on her home track.

King had a PR of 15.12 from last year’s Meet of Champions until she ran 15.03 in the Burlington County Open trials at Northern Burlington on May 11. She won the final in 14.89, her first sub-15 race, and then on Tuesday PR’d at 14.59 in the trials and 14.51 in the final.

That’s an improvement of 61-100ths of a second in under two weeks.

King is now No. 5 this year in New Jersey and No. 1 in South Jersey. She has the fastest time in New Jersey Group 4 and is No. 3 all-time at R.V., behind Anabella Chin’s 14.39 at the 2022 Meet of Champions in Somerset and Tonya Lee’s 14.42 at the 1987 TAC Junior Nationals at Rincon Vista Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. (now known as Roy P. Drachman Stadium.)

The top four finishers Tuesday ran sub-15 and all four PR’d. Winslow senior Dominique Clement was 2nd in 14.77 after a PR 14.61 in the trials, Lenape senior Keira Gibbons placed 3rd in 14.91 after a PR 15.02 in the trials and Winslow sophomore Ma’Syiah Brawner took 4th in 14.93 after a PR 15.11 in the trials. Brawner also won the triple jump [37-9], long jump [18-1] and high jump [5-4]. Those four girls now rank 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th in South Jersey, and Brawner is the No. 2 sophomore in New Jersey (by 4-100ths of a second).

Winslow’s Dominic Bassey shattered his own school record in the 800 and moved up to No. 9 on the all-time Camden County list Tuesday at the Olympic Conference Championships at Rancocas Valley.

Bassey won the 800 in 1:54.39, dropping his PR from a 1:55.33 at the indoor Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze.

That’s the fastest winning time at the Olympic Conference meet in 15 years, since Washington Township’s Xavier Fraction set the meet record of 1:53.34 in 2009.

Bassey won by about 15 meters over Cherry Hill East junior Brandon Lyons, who PR’d with a 1:57.84 for 2nd place. Another junior, Rancocas Valley’s Christian Rouzard, was 3rd with a PR of 1:58.55. Lyons’ previous PR was 1:58.60, and Rouzard’s 2:02.70.

Bassey’s 1:54.39 makes him the No. 5 junior in New Jersey and No. 1 among South Jersey runners. Overall, he’s now 3rd-fastest in South Jersey this year, behind Cherokee’s Bobby Poplau [1:53.15 at the Burlington County Open] and Woodbury’s Peyton Shute [1:53.82 at Haddonfield Distance Night].

Paul VI senior Shaelan McNally raced to the 14th-fastest 1,600 in state history Tuesday night at the Holmdel Twilight Series Royal Rumble.

McNally led four girls under 4:52 at Holmdel High School, winning in 4:45.91. That’s 3rd-fastest in South Jersey history and fastest in 23 years.

Northern Burlington junior Liliah Gordon finished 4th with a huge PR of 4:51.84, which is 10th-fastest in South Jersey history and No. 2 on the all-time Burlington County list.

McNally, whose previous PR was 4:47.95 from the South Jersey Elite at Delsea earlier this month, now trails only two legends on the all-time South Jersey list:

√ Michelle Rowen of Washington Township ran a hand-timed 4:43.2 full mile at the 1982 Kinney Invitational at Cal Berkeley on June 12, 1982, which converts to 4:41.5 for 1,600 meters

√ Haddonfield Olympian Erin Donohue ran 4:42.96 full mile on June 17, 2001, at Outdoor Nationals in Raleigh, N.C., which converts to 4:41.16.

Unbelievably in this day and age, splits are not available. Too bad Tomahawk can’t time every meet.

As for Gordon, her 4:51.84 is 2nd-fastest on the all-time Burlington County list behind Cherokee’s Nicole Clifford, who ran 4:48.82 in 2022 converted from a 4:50.50 full mile at Icahn Stadium in New York.

It’s fastest by a South Jersey underclassman since Mainland Regional’s Alyssa Aldridge ran 4:51.43 at the 2017 state Group 3 meet on Gordon’s home track at Northern Burlington.

Gordon’s previous 1,600 PR was 4:55.56 converted from a 4:57.28 full mile indoors at Boston University in February.

McNally and Gordon belong to a small club of nine New Jersey girls – only three from South Jersey who’ve run sub-2:18, sub-4:52 and sub-10:23:

Deptford junior Marcus Hood, who hadn’t cleared better than 13-6 until a month ago, on Tuesday became the ninth Gloucester County pole vaulter to clear 15 feet.

Hood cleared 15-0 on his 3rd attempt at the Delsea Crusader Field Meet, becoming only the 4th New Jersey vaulter this year to get over the bar at 15 feet or better.

Oakcrest junior Ryan Merlino cleared 15-8 at the Atlantic County Championships last week at Buena (and 16 feet indoors), West Morris Central junior Cade Zeolla cleared 15-8 in a meet last week in Boonton, and Pompton Lakes junior Owen Keating hit 15-0 two weeks ago in Warwick Valley, N.Y.

Hood tied the school record of 15-0 set by James Lynch at the 2019 Group 3 sectionals in Bayville. His previous PR was

On Tuesday, Hood passed through 12-6, cleared 13-0 and 13-6 on his 2nd attempt and 14-0 on his 3rd. He tied his PR of 14-6 set at the Woodbury Relays last month on his 2nd attempt and then got over the bar on his 3rd try at 15-0. He had the bar raised to 15-3, where he missed three attempts. In all, Hood took 14 jumps.

Clearview senior Daniel Couse and Willingboro senior Jackson Murry both cleared 14-0 on their 1st attempt to tie for 2nd. Couse, the state Group 3 champ last year at 15-0, has a season best of 14-6 from the South Jersey Elite earlier this month. Murry, the three-time Burlington County Open champ, tied his PR of 14-0, which he’s done four times.

Delsea sophomore Hannah Nuhfer popped a monster discus PR Tuesday. And then she popped another one.

Nuhfer, who came into the Delsea Crusader Field Meet with a PR of 130-3, opened with a 148-9 and followed that up with a 149-2.

She broke the South Jersey sophomore class record of 142-5 set by Cherokee’s Jessica Woodard at the 2011 Meet of Champions at Old Bridge with the No. 14 throw in state history.

Her throw is also No. 7 in South Jersey history and No. 4 in Gloucester County history. It’s the best throw by any New Jersey sophomore since Alyssa Wilson of Donovan Catholic threw 150-6 to win the 2015 Meet of Champions at South Plainfield.

According to the MileSplit U.S. database, it’s the No. 2 throw nationally by a sophomore, behind only a 165-6 by Anna Giannopoulos of Valley Christian in Oshkosh, Wisc., in a meet last month in Juneau, Wisc. (On further review, that 165-6 appears to be a mistake, considering Giannopoulos hasn’t thrown farther than 107-1 in any of her seven other meets listed on MileSplit. That would make Nuhfer the No. 1 soph nationally).

Nuhfer is now No. 2 this year in New Jersey, behind Princeton-bound Old Tappan senior Layla Giordano, who won the Penn Relays with a 167-10. Giordano won the Meet of Champions last year and threw 170-4 to win West Philly Nationals, also at Franklin Field. That’s No. 3 in state history.

Her throw is No. 2 in meet history behind Woodard’s meet-record 160-2 in 2013.

Nuhfer is only listed on MileSplit with one discus competition last year as a freshman, a 113-1 at the same Delsea Crusader Field Meet last May. Her PR as recently as three weeks ago was still 115-3. But she popped a 130-3 at the South Jersey Elite at Delsea earlier this month and on Tuesday added nearly 20 more feet to her PR with a historic performance at her home facility.

Nuhfer finished her series with a 138-3, two fouls and a 132-9. Sunsarai Moore, another Gloucester County sophomore, was 2nd with a 130-4. Delsea senior Morgan Mankoski PR’d at 128-4, and Washington Township junior Ella Karp PR’d at 120-9, giving the meet four girls over 120 feet.

Some smoking hot 400s Tuesday by Winslow’s young middle-distance runners at the Olympic Conference Championships at Rancocas Valley.

Freshman Cinniya Robinson led a 1-2-3 sweep with a PR 56.43, sophomore Olivia Okaro was 2nd in 56.98 and freshman Skyhe Seamon was 3rd in 58.07.

Robinson lowered her PR from 57.66 at the Camden County Championships last week at Haddon Township. Her time is No. 9 in New Jersey, No. 2 in South Jersey and No. 2 among New Jersey freshmen. Okaro has run slightly faster – 56.90 at South Jersey Elite – but she’s already No. 5 in South Jersey this year. And Seamon dropped her PR from 1:00.16, which she ran indoors at Easterns at the Armory back in February. She’s now the No. 6 freshman in New Jersey.

Robinson, Okaro and Seamon are now No. 2, 3 and 7 in New Jersey Group 3.

Robinson’s 56.43 is the fastest time in the Olympic Conference meet in 15 years, since Seneca’s Michelle Brown – who was inducted into the South Jersey Track Hall of Fame in March – won the 2009 race in 54.91. The only other faster times in meet history belong to Brown in 2008 [55.19] and Highland’s Nichole Bartley in 1992 [56.0].

Ocean City senior Matt Hoffman ran a huge 1,600 PR Monday evening at Haddonfield Distance Night, dropping his PR more than four seconds and running the 4th-fastest time in South Jersey this year.

Hoffman dropped his PR from 4:20.38 from the South Jersey Elite at Delsea earlier this month to 4:16.11 with a huge negative split.

Hoffman was out in 2:09.50 [63.46 / 66.04] and came back in 2:06.61 [63.66 / 62.95], finishing 25 meters ahead of 2nd-place Washington Township senior Daniel Torres, who PR’d at 4:20.11.

The only faster South Jersey times this year are converted from full miles – Peyton Shute of Woodbury ran 4:08.28 [4:06.84 for 1,600 meters], Cherokee’s Robert Poplau 4:13.08 [4:11.61 for 1,600] and Cherokee’s Nick Kuenkel ran 4:18.11 [4:16.61].

Hoffman’s time is No. 4 in Cape May County history and fastest in 14 years, since Miles Schoedler ran 4:11.46 at the 2010 Meet of Champions in South Plainfield.

Torres closed in 60.66 to move up from 4th to 2nd on the final lap. Nate Johnson of Penn Charter was 3rd in 4:20.54, and Williamstown junior Dylan Saber [4:23.31], Ocean City sophomore Erik Preisner [4:23.65] and Highland junior Mason Wassell [4:24.62] all PR’d as well.

Also under 4:30 with PRs: Moorestown sophomore Peter Simpson [4:25.75], Williamstown sophomore Dominic Burgio [4:26.84], Triton senior Ethan Wence [4:27.01], Ocean City junior Kal Heyman [4:28.64], Egg Harbor senior Amir Halim [4:28.69], Haddon Heights senior Jayden Gonzelez [4:29.63] and Ocean City junior Ethan Buck [4:29.66].

So Ocean City went 4:16.11 / 4:23.65 / 4:28.64 / 4:29.66 with a senior, a sophomore and two juniors. Add it up and you have a 17:38 4-by-1,600.

Thirteen South Jersey athletes – 12 of them from Rowan – are headed to the NCAA Division 3 Championships this week in South Carolina.

Rowan senior Marquis Young from Sterling, already a four-time All-America, leads the way as a qualifier in three events.

The NCAA Division 3 Championships are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

Men
➡️ Young is the No. 3 seed in the 110-meter hurdles with his 14.01 to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships in Galloway earlier this month, and he’s the No. 17 seed in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with his 52.92 in March in a meet at Widener University in Chester, Pa. He’s also part of Rowan’s top-seeeded 1,600-meter relay team, which ran 3:09.31 last week at Widener.

➡️ Rowan sophomore Anaias Hughes, a Willingboro graduate, is another one of four Rowan qualifiers in the 110-meter hurdles. He qualified with a PR 14.31 at the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships at Cortland, N.Y., last week.

➡️ Rowan junior Nick Razze shares the No. 17 seed in the 400IH with Young. Razze ran 52.92 in a meet in Ewing in April. His PR is 52.84 from last May at Widener as a sophomore at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. Razze is also scheduled to run with Young on Rowan’s 4-by-4.

➡️ Rowan’s Eli Hendricks, a true freshman from Penns Grove, didn’t quite qualify in the 200 despite a 21.45 but he will lead off Rowan’s 400-meter relay team, which is seeded 10th at 40.64.

➡️ Shamar Love of Bridgeton, a Rowan junior from Bridgeton, will also run the 400-meter relay. Love ran 10.48 and 21.64 this year. He earned All-America honors last year on Rowan’s 2nd-place 400-meter relay team, which ran 40.14.

➡️ Robert McKinney, a Rowan junior from Highland, makes his 1st career trip to NCAAs as part of the Profs’ 4-by-1. McKinney ran 10.76 and 21.58 this year.

➡️ Jamile Gantt, a Rowan freshman from Paulsboro, cleared 6-9 at the AARTFC Championships, which makes him the No. 16 seed at D-3 Nationals. His PR is 6-10 from last year’s South Jersey Elite at Delsea. Gantt also ran 1:59.30 at Paulsboro but hasn’t run the 800 since 2022.

Women
➡️ Molly Lodge PR’d with a Rowan-record 1:01.33 in the 400-meter intermediates at the AARTFC Championships in Cortland, earning her the No. 7 seed in Myrtle Beach. She’ll also run on Rowan’s No. 11-seed 1,600-meter relay team. Lodge is already a two-time All-America, with legs on Rowan’s 8th-place 4-by-4 indoors in 2022 in Birmingham and 5th-place indoor 4-by-4 in Virginia Beach this past indoor season. She qualified for NCAAs last year in the intermediates and placed 17th in 1:03.43 in her first year in the event.

➡️ Pennsauken’s Jasmine Pope, a transfer from St. Peter’s in Jersey City, is part of Rowan’s 1,600-meter relay team. Pope spent 2022 at St. Peter’s and sat out last year before resurfacing at Rowan.

➡️ Nevaeh Lorjuste, a Rowan junior from Triton, will anchor the Profs’ 1,600-meter relay team. She’s already a two-time All-America from Rowan’s 8th- and 5th-place 4-by-4 teams the last two indoor seasons.

➡️ Washington Township graduate Isabelle Deal, a Rowan junior and transfer from Ursinus, qualified in both the shot put with her Rowan school-record 45-8 and the javelin at 135-8. She’s the No. 14 seed in the shot and No. 16 in the javelin. Deal is a three-time javelin All-America, having placed 8th, 6th and 6th in her three year at Ursinus. She threw her javelin PR of 155-0 at last year’s AARTFC meet in Selinsgrove.

➡️ Deal’s teammate at Ursinus, Stockton junior Michaela Pomatto from Egg Harbor Township, is the No. 11 seed in the discus with her 154-8 at the AARTFC meet. This will be here first trip to NCAAs.
