Terrific collegiate debut for Kingsways’ Evan Corcoran, who not only ran a hot  200 but ran a leg on a fast early 4-by-4 for Rowan at the Fastrack Season Opener at Ocean Breeze.

Corcoran, who ran 10.55 and 21.62 last spring and was the state Group 4 champ in both sprints, won the 200 in 21.73 – a massive indoor PR – and ran second leg on Rowan’s 3:16.82 relay team, which won by more than five seconds.

Corcoran won the 200 by a whopping 39-100ths of a second over Cameron Summers of Stevenson of Owings Mills, Md. His time is fastest by a D-3 freshman since NCAA Division 3 champ Kai Cole (who’s now at Norfolk State) of Wesley College in Dover, Del. (now part of Delaware State) ran 21.40 at Boston University in 2019.

Corcoran has run a bit faster outdoors, but this was his by far his fastest indoor time ever. Corcoran’s high school indoor PR was 22.28 from the prelims of the Emerging Elite event at the Nike Indoor Nationals at Ocean Breeze this past March.

His time is fastest indoors by a Rowan sprinter in at least 10 years and only 17-100ths of a second off the school record of 21.56 set by Rich Dixon at the 1999 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships, which were most likely also at the Armory.

On the 4-by-4, Nana Agyemang led off with a 48.70 split, Corcoran split 48.47, Sterling’s Jah’mere Beasley split 49.51 and Amara Conte anchored in 50.14. Rowan won by more than five seconds over St. Joe’s, which was second in 3:21.97.

Rowan won the NCAA Division 3 title in the 4-by-4 last winter with a 3:16.56 after setting a school record of 3:12.80 with Agyemang, Beasley and Conte joined by Charlie Serrano-Juarez.

Woodrow Wilson’s Dennisha Page got her 2022-23 indoor season off to a hot start by nearly toppling the Rutgers school record at 300 meters.

Page won the 300 at the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the 168th Street Armory in 39.32, only 12-100ths of a second off the school record of 39.25 set by Bria Saunders of Parsippany High at the Beantown Challenge on Harvard’s track in Cambridge, Mass., in 2017.

This was Page’s first lifetime 300 in her three indoor seasons – one at Syracuse and two at Rutgers. She ran one as a senior at Wilson on the same Armory track in 41.80 back in December of 2018.

Page ran 11.39 and 23.55 last spring for Rutgers.

Page won the race by a whopping .68-100ths of a second over Amara Onyeuku of Columbia, who ran 40.00. She also ran a leadoff 59.7 leg on Rutgers’ 4-by-400 team, which placed 4th in 4:00.62.

In her first race for Holy Family College, former Lenape star Jasmine Staten destroyed the school record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Staten, who competed for Bloomfield last year, ran a personal-best 8.36 in the trials of the Fastrack Season Opener at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island Friday, then won the final in 8.68. Julia Kirschnick of Georgian Court in Lakewood led all qualifiers in 7.90 but didn’t contest the final.

Staten shattered the Holy Family record of 9.00 set by Lindzey Mosley at the 2019 East Coast Conference Championships, also at Ocean Breeze.

Her previous PR was 8.78 for Bloomfield from the West Point (N.Y.) Tune-Up at Army-Gillis Fieldhouse this past February.

Staten won the final over Aisha Carrington of Lincoln (Pa.), who ran 9.01, and Rancocas Valley grad Anabella Chin of St. Joe’s, who was 3rd in 9.12 in her first college race. Another South Jersey freshman, Gloria Hughes of Willingboro and Rowan, was 4th in 9.31 in her first college race.

Staten also placed 3rd in the 200 in 26.01 in what appears to be her first indoor 200 since she ran 25.54 as a Lenape junior at the 2016 Varsity Classic at the Armory.

After sitting out the 2019, 2020 and 2021 outdoor seasons, Staten won the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference 100-meter hurdles title in May in Lakewood and finished the year ranked 9th in NCAA Division 2 at 13.74. She qualified for the NCAA Division 2 Championships but did not compete.

Staten is listed as a sophomore bio-chemistry major at Holy Family, located in the Torresdale section of Philadelphia, about 600 yards from the Bucks County border.

The Haddonfield girls continued their terrific XC season Saturday by placing 3rd in the 15th annual Nike Cross Regionals at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Haddonfield scored 72 points and finished just two behind Meet of Champions winner Union Catholic. North Allegheny High of Wexford, Pa., won the race with just 23 points.

The top-two teams in each of nine regions earn automatic bids to next weekend’s Nike Nationals in Portland, Ore. There are four at-large bids that go to 3rd-place teams out of the nine regions, and Haddonfield is in the running for one of those.

Junior Ava Thomas led the way for Haddonfield in 15th place in 19:41, and senior Helene Usher, junior Riley Slootsky and freshman Riley Austin ran 21st through 23rd in 19:56 through 19:58. Junior Audrey Naticchia ran 53rd in 21:00. Their team places were 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 28th.

The Nike series began in 2007, and Haddonfield’s 3rd-place finish is 3rd-best ever by a South Jersey school.

Kingsway was 2nd in 2017 and Cherokee won last year.

Northern Burlington sophomore Lialah Gordon and Paul VI junior Shaelan McNally both finished the XC season with top-25 finishes Saturday at the Champs Northeast Regional XC Championships.

Gordon finished 20th in 19:16 and McNally 23rd in 19:22 over the challenging 5,000-meter course at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The race draws from seven Northeastern States.

The top 10 finishers qualify for the Champs National Championships at Balboa Park in San Diego next month. This is the latest name for the Kinney / Foot Locker / Eastbay Regionals, all at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Gordon’s 20th-place is the highest finish by a South Jersey girl since Alyssa Aldridge won the 2016 race.

According to the official results from the Champs Northeast Regional, three South Jersey runners finished in the top 10 of the combined freshman-sophomore race Saturday morning.

T.J. Zwall of Ocean City is listed in 8th in 17:42, Max Smith of Clementon 9th in 17:46 and Peter Simpson of “Mooresville” 10th in 17:51.

There is a T.J. Zwall who’s a sophomore at Penn Charter, so we’ll assume he’s from Ocean City and running for Penn Charter. Zwall recently finished 8th in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Championships at Belmont Plateauin 17:04.

Smith, I have no idea. There is no Max Smith that I could find who ran for Triton or any South Jersey school. There’s one in California. If you’re Max Smith and you ran at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx this morning and you’re from Clementon, lemme know! Whoever this Max Smith is, nice race!

Simpson of course is a freshman at Moorestown, not Mooresville, and a first-year runner. Terrific race for him, placing in the top 10 in his first shot on Vanny’s challenging 5,000-meter layout.

The results have been off all day. They show Colin Whitaker of Pitman placing 8th in the boys championship race in 15:40. There is no Colin Whitaker at Pitman. He is in fact a senior at Lampeter-Strasburg High in Lampeter, Pa., just outside Lancaster.

The Champs Northeast Regional is the former Kinney, Foot Locker and Eastbay Regional Championships dating back to 1979 and always at Vanny.

It’s been 20 years since John Richardson ran for Ocean City, but he’s still competing at an incredibly high level.

Richardson doubled the 800 and 1,600 at the 2003 Meet of Champions with a couple ridiculous performances – 1:51.62 and 4:09.20 – and was a frequent SEC medalist while competing collegiately for Kentucky.

Richardson went on to run a 3:59.35 mile in February of 2008 in Lexington, Ky., and remains one of just six South Jersey natives to break 4:00 in the mile (along with Brian Gallagher of Sterling, Mark Sivieri of St. Augustine, Brett Johnson of Ocean City, Rob Novak of Bordentown and Ford Palmer of Absegami).

But Richardson is taking on even more ambitious challenges these days.

Richardson and his family now live in Ponte Vedra, Fla. (where the Eagles stayed before the 2004 Super Bowl), where he’s a Realtor. In his spare time – and he needs a lot of it – he’s a triathlete and recently competed in the Ironman Florida, which is a qualifier for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, next fall.

Normally, this is where I would tell you how Richardson did at Ironman Florida and what his splits were for the 2.4-mile Gulf of Mexico swim, 112-mile bike ride and full marathon.

Former Sterling and St. Joe’s runner Jimmy Daniels placed 20th in the Philadelphia Marathon Sunday morning with a 2:25.42 in his first lifetime marathon.

Daniels, 27, finished 8th in the 25-to-29 age group and finished only 1 ½ minutes out of the top 10.

Daniels, who lives in Stratford, placed 3rd in the 2013 Meet of Champions in the 3,200 in 9:00.30 and also ran 4:16.53 for 1,600 meters at Sterling. He ran 14:32.78 for 5,000 meters at St. Joe’s before graduating in 2017.

Michael Iannotta, 22, a 2018 Cherokee graduate who ran at The College of New Jersey, placed 60th and 7th in the 20-24 age group in 2:35.29.

Brian Quilty, 33, of Pitman ran 2:37.18 for 71st place and 21st in the 30-34 age group. Quilty ran at Rowan after graduating from St. Rose High in Belmar.

Chris Shaw of Turnersville, 21, ran 2:38.03 for 77th place and 11th in the 20-24 age group. Shaw, a Washington Township graduate who ran for Stockton, just ran the Atlantic City Marathon late last month.

Dominic Ondoro of Grand Prairie, Texas, won the race in 2:14.20.

Gabby Vassalotti of Haddonfield and Danielle Iannone of Marlton were the top South Jersey women, placing  102nd and 103rd. Vassalotti ran 3:08.32 and Iannone ran 3:12.06.

Another huge race, another huge win for Kylie Anicic.

Anicic, a junior at Edinboro and a 2018 Kingsway graduate, won the NCAA Division 2 Atlantic Regional Saturday over 6,000 meters at the Lambs Creek course along the Tioga River basin in Richmond Township, Tioga County, just north of Mansfield, Pa.

Anicic won by 85 meters over teammate Kimberly Goerss, who was 2nd in 21:25. Their 1-2 finish propelled Edinboro to 2nd place in team scoring with 84 points, behind only Charleston (W. Va.). Charleston and Edinboro are ranked No. 1 and 2 in thte Atlantic Region.

As the top finisher, Anicic qualified for the NCAA Division 2 Championships, and as one of the top three teams, Edinboro will race as a full team as well. D-2 Nationals are scheduled for Dec. 2, at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash., outside Tacoma.

This is Anicic’s first collegiate XC season since 2019, when she was a sophomore at Towson after beginning her collegiate career as a soccer player at Temple.

In her only previous NCAA regional race, Anicic placed 76th for Towson in the Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Regional at Lehigh in 21:50 three years ago this week.

Edinboro has finished 1st or 2nd in its D-2 regionals in nine of the last 10 meets. The Fighting Scots placed 2nd in 2012 and 2015 and won the title in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. Edinboro tied for 10th in 2016, and the meet wasn’t held in 2020.

This will be the Scots’ 26th trip to nationals and 5th in a row. The program’s top finishes were 2nd place in 2004 and 3rd place in 1999.

On the same course a week earlier, Anicic ran 21:09 and Goerss 22:06 as Edinboro won its 4th straight PSAC Championship.

Kingsway’s Kylie Anicic won her first conference XC title over the weekend, placing first in the PSAC Championship race by nearly a minute.

Anicic, a junior at Edinboro, ran 21:09 over 6,000 meters at the Lambs Creek course along the Tioga River basin in Richmond Township, Tioga County, just north of Mansfield, Pa.
She finished 57 seconds ahead of teammate Kimberly Goerss, who ran 22:06.

Anicic led Edinboro to its 4th consecutive team title with just 33 points, 22 fewer than 2nd-place Shippensburg.

“It’s always exciting to see your hard work pay off with and individual win, but I think it’s more exciting when you share that moment of being champions with the group that pushes you every day,” Anicic said on Edinboro’s web site.

“All the early morning workouts were cashed in by our ladies today. I’m so happy to be a part of something bigger than myself and bring this title back to the Boro.”

Anicic has won six PSAC individual titles on the track – the mile, 3,000 and 5,000 last winter and 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the spring. She also anchored Edinboro’s 1st-place DMR at the indoor PSAC meet.

This is her first season of cross country since 2019, when she was a sophomore at Towson. In her only previous conference XC meet, she placed 17th in the Colonial Athletic Association meet in New Market, Va., in November 2019.

Edinboro will race Saturday in the NCAA Division 2 Atlantic Regional Championships back at Lambs Creek. Edinboro is ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic Region behind Charleston, W. Va.
