Chloe Jones, Naylah Jones, Billie Frazier and Nyla Jones teamed up to win the concluding 1,600-meter relay and give the Timber Creek girls their second state indoor title.

Timber Creek scored 33 ½ points and outscored three schools with 26 – Middletown South, Ocean City and Pennsauken.

Incredibly, thanks to continued stupidity from the NJSIAA, the URL for the live results from the morning Group 2-3 meet at the Bubble is identical to the URL for the Group 1-4 meet this afternoon, so live resuts – and all team scores – disappear as soon as the meet ends.

The only way I have final team scoring is because Jim Lambert from MileSplit texted me copies of the final results! What a way to run a track meet! Track is last on the NJSIAA’s list of priorities, just behind water polo. This kind of idiocy sure wouldn’t happen at a wrestling match or football game.

Timber Creek also won the Group 3 state meet indoors in 2017.

Junior Guerlande Pierre placed 2nd in the shot put with a PR 36-6 ¾ – exactly a foot beyond her previous PR from sectionals – and cleared 5-0 to tie for 5th in the high jump.

Junior Naylah Jones placed 2nd in the 55 in 7.19, just 8-100ths of a second off her PR of 7.11. She finished just behind Pennsauken freshman Sianni Wynn, who ran 7.09. And junior Chloe Jones ran 58.21 for 3rd in the 400 .

Going into the relay, Ocean City had 26 points, Timber Creek 23 ½, Middletown South 22 and Pennsauken 20. Ocean City didn’t have a 4-by-4 team, but Timber Creek, Middletown South and Pennsauken all appear to have been in the last section (again, there’s no way to be sure – thanks, NJSIAA!).

(Now I’m told Pennsauken ran its 4:07.60 in the third of four sections and had to wait for the “fast” heat to see where it wound up.)

Timber Creek then locked up the team title with the win, Winslow was 2nd in 4:05.71, Pennsauken got 3rd to increase its total to 26 points and Middletown South placed 4th to match Ocean City and Pennsauken.

Seniors Bryce Tucker and Premier Wynn opened up the day with a 1-2 finish in the 400, and Pennsauken rolled from there to its first indoor state title.

Last year, Pennsauken finished 2nd to West Windsor-Plainsboro North [57-49] and then finished 2nd to Delsea outdoors [64-59], but it was all Pennsauken Saturday, and the Indians finished with a 42-36 margin of victory to win the state Group 3 championship over 2nd-place Chatham at the Bubble in Toms River.

In the 400, Tucker ran 49.73 and Wynn 49.82 for a quick 18 points. Tucker was tripped in the 800 and unable to finish, costing Pennsauken big points, but he placed 2nd in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.56, and junior Elijah Jennings added six big points in the 55-meter dash with a personal-best 6.56 for 3rd place.

Pennsauken clinched the win with a commanding win in the 1,600-meter relay, the last event of the morning session.

The Indians just had to stay in front of Chatham, and they did, with freshman KaRon Ali, junior Ladanian McGrath, Wynn and Tucker winning in 3:24.47 and finishing 40 meters ahead of 2nd-place Winslow [3:29.32], with Chatham 3rd [3:29.96].

Overall, the state title is Pennsauken’s third since 2016. The Indians won in 2016 and 2021 outdoors. Pennsauken is the first South Jersey school to win the state Group 3 title indoors since 2015, when Kingsway shared the championship with Old Tappan.

Cinnaminson senior Alex Boyko won his first state title and became Burlington County’s fastest indoor miler in 14 years Saturday at the state Group 2 meet.

Boyko won the 1,600 in 4:18.28 at the Bubble in Toms River, 2nd-fastest in South Jersey this year so far behind George Andrus of Haddonfield, who ran 4:17.72 at sectionals last weekend.

That’s fastest by a Burlington County runner indoors since David Forward of Shawnee ran a 4:16.71, which was converted from a 4:18.21 at Easterns in 2009.

Boyko, who is planning to run for Penn next year, finished 25 meters ahead of 2nd-place Nicholas Loffredo, a Manchester Township senior, who ran 4:21.04. Haddon Heights senior Jack Bolling placed 3rd in 4:21.44.

Boyko’s previous indoor PR was 4:21.51 from sectionals last weekend. He also ran under his overall PR of 4:19.26 from sectionals last spring at Delsea.

Boyko doubled back and placed 3rd in the 3,200 in 9:28.30, with teammate Matt McCarron 5th in 9:40.38.

Mainland sophomore Sophia Day shattered her own Atlantic County 800 record Saturday with a commanding win in the state Group 3 meet at the Bubble.

In her fourth lifetime 800, Day ran 2:15.59 and remained unbeaten, finishing about 15 meters ahead of 2nd-place Jenai Berry of Scotch Plains-Fanwood, who ran 2:18.16.

Day ran a county-record 2:17.76 at Ocean Breeze about a month ago in her first 800 and 2:21.49 at the Bubble a few days later. She lowered her PR and county record to 2:17.71 when she won sectionals. The previous Atlantic County indoor best was a 2:18.10 by Oakcrest’s Nijgia Snapp at 2008 Group 4 sectionals at the Bubble.

Her time is No. 16 in South Jersey history.

Willingboro junior Eric Foster picked the right time for a massive hurdles breakthrough.

Foster, who hadn’t broken 7.80 until three weeks ago and entered the state Group 2 meet with a 7.68 PR, blasted a 7.46 Saturday to win the state Group 2 55-meter hurdles title at the Bubble.

Foster edged Manchester Township junior Joseph Kurak, who led all qualifiers with a 7.64. Foster was 3rd among qualifiers at 7.72.

But in the final it was all Foster. Kurak placed second in 7.52. Sterling senior Samuel Agbessi placed 5th in 7.80, and another Willingboro hurdler, senior Kedaar Wilson, was 6th in 7.94.

Foster’s time is No. 5 in Burlington County history and No. 4 in Willingboro’s peerless hurdles history, behind three legends – Isaac Williams [7.22 in 2012], Gerard Reynolds [7.35 in 1990] and Lance Reed [7.44 in 1983]. It’s also tied for No. 22 in South Jersey history and No. 9 on the 2023 U.S. MileSplit list, pending other meets on Saturday and No. 3 in New Jersey this year.

Foster’s fastest time last winter was 8.94 in a SJTCA meet at the Bubble, and his PR over the 110 hurdles last spring was 15.40 in the prelims at states at Franklin. His times early this winter ranged from 7.85 to 8.10 before his first huge breakthrough on Jan. 28 at the Bubble, where he ran 7.69 and ran a close second to Pennsauken’s Bryce Tucker [7.62].

He PR’d at sectionals, winning with a 7.68, winning easily, and he was the No. 2 seed coming into states behind Kurak.

Paul VI senior Kamryn Cieslik cleared an indoor personal-best 5-2 to win her first state title Friday at the Bubble.

Cieslik was the only girl over 5-2 in the Parochial A high jump. Her previous indoor PR was 5-0, which she had cleared six time, including her last four meets this year. She cleared 5-2 ¼ outdoor this past May at the Camden County meet at Haddon Township.

Cieslik placed second at indoor states last year behind Fiona Carter of Paramus Catholic, who graduated. She’s Paul VI’s second state high jump champion in four years. Kambi Walker won with a 5-4 clearance in 2020.

Paul VI junior Bridget Gottilla cleared 5-0 for the first time and placed 4th in the high jump. Gottilla had cleared 4-10 twice this year and once last year.

In the Parochial A girls meet, Paul VI sophomore Anne Marie Brown ran 59.75 for 3rd place in the 400 and Camden Catholic junior Beatrice Daverso cleared 9-0 for the first time ever indoors or out to place 2nd in the pole vault.

In Parochial B, Bishop Eustace senior Elena Cicchini took 2nd in the 3,200 in 11:49.72 and Holy Cross junior Sara Sherlock ran 2:30.94 for 3rd in the Parochial B 800.

In the Parochial B boys meet, Eustace junior Shawn Brady threw 46-9 ¼ to place second in the shot put. That’s more than a foot-and-a-half PR for Brady, who hadn’t thrown 43 feet until three weeks ago.

A ton of incredible performances by South Jersey athletes at this weekend’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

Caraccio’s time is No. 3 in Monmouth history, behind Ford Palmer of Absegami, who ran 4:00.46 in 2013, and Chris Marco, who ran 4:03.51 in 2018.

✅ Cherokee graduate Ethan Wechsler, a sophomore at Syracuse, finished just behind Reed in 14:18.79. His previous 5,000 PR was a 14:19.77 outdoors in Raleigh, N.C, in May 2021. His indoor PR was a 14:31.45 at Boston Universitry in December 2021.

✅ Cornell sophomore Brady Shute from Woodbury PR’d in the 800 with a 1:52.06. That’s a two-second indoor PR over his 1:54.13 from a meet last February at the Armory. His previous overall PR was a 1:53.70 last April at Cortland, N.Y.

✅ Monmouth junior Ian Moore from Rancocas Valley also ran an indoor 800 PR with a 1:52.28. That’s No. 7 in Monmouth history indoors. Moore’s previous indoor PR was a 1:52.76 at Ocean Breeze as a freshman. He’s run 1:51.98 outdoors.

✅ In his first collegiate 5,000 and first lifetime indoor 5,000, Delsea graduate Andrew Littlehales, a freshman at Army, ran 14:40.39. Littlehales ran one track 5,000 in high school and ran 15:04.81 at Franklin Field this past June.

✅ Shawnee graduate Andrew Lodge, a senior at The College of New Jersey, ran an indoor PR 48.57. His previous indoor PR was 48.89 at last year’s NJAC meet at Ocean Breeze. Lodge has run 48.49 outdoors at a meet last spring in Bethlehem, Pa.

✅ Ahmir Johnson won the triple jump with an indoor PR 48-11 ¾, the No. 3 mark in NCAA Division 3 this year. He broke his own school record of 48-11 ½ from a meet in March 2022 in Rochester, N.Y.

✅ Monmouth won the distance medley in 9:37.38 with Caraccio leading off on the 1,200 leg, Burlington Township’s Jalen Jones running the 400, Moore the 800 and Louis DiLaurenzio the 1,600 anchor. That’s No. 5 in NCAA Division 3 this year and broke the school record of 9:46.80 set at 2013 IC4As.

✅ Princeton’s Arianna Smith, a junior from Pennsville, ran 55.19 in the 400. She wasn’t far off her indoor (and overall) PR of 55.01, which she ran in Annapolis last month. She also ran a 55.18 third leg on Princeton’s winning 4-by-4, which ran 3:40.89

✅ Nia Holden, a St. John’s senior from Highland and transfer from American, ran an 800 PR of 2:11.03. Her previous PR was a 2:11.90 last month at Ocean Breeze. Before joining St. John’s this season, her 800 PR was a 2:14.43 last year for American in the trials of the Patriot League Championships last year in Lewisburg, Pa.

✅ Shawnee’s Grace Kearns, a junior at Monmouth, finished just behind Holden in a season-best 2:11.45. Kearns ran 2:10.39 last year art IC4A’s in Boston. Lenape’s Shelby Whetstone of Rutgers ran 2:12.38.

✅ Post-grad Kristin Siegle, a Rider graduate from Buena, ran a big personal-best 4:52.64. Her previous PR was 4:55.34 at Boston University in 2020. She has run as fast as 4:22.45 for 1,500 meters outdoors.

✅ Egg Harbor graduate Isabella Leake, a Monmouth junior, ran a mile PR of 4:53.62, No. 6 in Monmouth history. Her previous PR was a 4:54.22 last month at Ocean Breeze.

✅ UConn’s Jailya Ash from Eastern ran an 8.46 to easily lead all qualifiers in the 60-meter hurdles. She false-started in the final but still had the fastest time of the day, including the finals.

Sterling graduates Jah’mere Beasley and Marquise Young ran the middle splits as Rowan ran the fastest 1,600-meter relay in NCAA Division 3 history this past weekend.

Rowan ran 3:10.09 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University. The Profs placed a close 2nd to Princeton, which ran 3:10.01, but they shattered the all-time Division 3 record by more than a second.

Parsippany’s Nana Agyemang led off for Rowan and James Ferris grad Amara Conte anchored.

The previous D-3 record was 3:11.10 by Bobby Young, Milton Williams, Jeff Jasmin and Augustine Schmader of Lincoln at the 2004 IC4A Championships at Boston University.

For the Profs, Agyemang led off in 48.03, Beasley split 47.82, Young ran 47.17 and Conte anchored in 47.10.

Rowan’s previous indoor school record was 3:12.80 on the same track last year with Charlie Serrano-Juarez, Agyemang, Beasley and Conte last February

Rowan ran 3:10.09 and placed 2nd to Princeton in the 4-by-4. No splits available, but Jah’mere Beasley and Marquise Young ran the middle splits.

The Profs’ time is No. 23 in the U.S. this year and No. 45 in the world.

Let’s start with Pennsauken’s performance Monday at the SJTCA #14 meet, the second one over the fast Ocean Breeze track in Staten Island.

✅ Senior Premier Wynn demolished his indoor 400 PR, winning in 48.45, with Timber Creek junior Nasir Ali 2nd in 49.72. Wynn’s previous indoor PR was a 49.66 at last year’s Meet of Champions at the Bubble. He ran 47.86 outdoors last spring to win the state Group 3 title and also ran 54.28 in the intermediates. His 48.45 is No. 3 in the state this year and No. 1 in South Jersey. It’s also No. 5 in South Jersey history and No. 22 in the U.S. this year according to the MileSplit national database. ✅ Premier’s younger sister, Sianni, won the 400 in 56.98, fastest by a New Jersey freshman since Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin of Union Catholic ran 56.15 at the 2014 Meet of Champions. Her time is No. 1 in South Jersey this year and No. 2 in the state behind Piscataway senior Brooke’lyn Drakeford, who ran 56.51 in December at Ocean Breeze. It also tied the school record set by Jade Pope at the 2020 state Group 3 meet at the Bubble. All-time South Jersey list below!

✅ Sianni Wynn also won a hot 200 in 24.87, with Timber Creek junior Naylah Jones second with the same time. Wynn is already No. 2 in the state at 24.81 from the Armory last month, and now Jones moves into the No. 3 spot on the state list. Jones’ previous PR was an outdoor 25.46, so that’s a huge breakthrough for her. Wynn and Jones are now No. 10 and No. 13 on the all-time South Jersey list. All-time South Jersey list below!

✅ Senior Bryce Tucker won a fast 800, leading five runners under 2:00, including the top three from South Jersey schools. Tucker ran an indoor PR 1:55.92, Deptford senior Lathan Brown was 2nd in 1:56.51 and Winslow sophomore Dominic Bassey took 3rd in 1:57.63. Those are the top three S.J. times this winter. Two Colts Neck runners also broke 2:00. Tucker’s 1:55.92 is No. 5 in the state this year and No. 1 in South Jersey. Tucker’s previous indoor PR was a 1:56.82 last month at the Bubble. He wasn’t far off his overall PR of 1:55.00 from last May outdoors in a meet at Metuchen. Tucker’s time is No. 22 in South Jersey history. Brown broke his indoor PR of 1:56.71 from last year’s Easterns at the Armory and not far from his overall PR of 1:56.19 from last year’s Haddonfield Distance Night. Bassey’s performance was a huge breakthrough and his first time under 2:01, 2:00, 1:59 and 1:58. His previous indoor or outdoor PR was 2:01.33 indoors at last year’s Group 4 sectionals at the Bubble. His time is No. 1 among all New Jersey sophomores and No. 7 nationally among sophs, according to MileSplit. It’s also fastest by a South Jersey sophomore since Haddonfield’s Derek Gess ran 1:55.93 at 2017 Easterns at the Armory. All-Time South Jersey list below!

✅ Tucker also won the 55-meter high hurdles in 7.66. Tucker already ranks 4th in the state this year at 7.56 from the Armory last month. He ran his PR of 7.53 at last year’s Meet of Champions at the Bubble. Another Pennsauken senior, 2nd-year hurdler Zah’kye Copling, PR’d at 7.92, his first time under 8 seconds.

✅ KaRon Ali ran 50.94 for 4th in the 400, which makes him the 7th-fastest freshman in the country according to MileSplit and the fastest South Jersey freshman since Luke Colehower of Haddonfield ran 49.44 at the 2016 Meet of Champions.

✅ Junior Elijah Jennings was 2nd in the 55 in 6.60, just off his PR 6.58 from sectionals. He’s No. 4 in South Jersey this year.

✅ In the boys meet, Eastern senior Rajahn Dixon won the 200 in a speedy 21.92, No. 2 in New Jersey this year and No. 9 in South Jersey history. He’s the first South Jersey sprinter to dip under 22 seconds since Antonio Tarantino of Paul VI in 2018. Dixon, in his first year of outdoor track, had a previous 22.41 from Ocean Breeze earlier this month. The all-time South Jersey boys 200 list is below.

In the boys meet, Timber Creek junior Robert Wakefield won the 1,600 in 4:31.25 with Delsea’s Matthew Littlehales running 4:32.19, No. 15 among U.S. freshmen according to MileSplit, Highland won the 3,200-meter relay in 8:02.08 (names not available), Eastern senior Jashad Kersey won the triple jump at 44-0 ½; and Cinnaminson senior Malicah Etienne won the shot at 49-8.

In the girls meet, Timber Creek’s Jones won the 55 in 7.16, just over her PR of 7.11, which is No. 2 in New Jersey; Winslow freshman Ma’Syiah Brawner won the high jump at 5-2 and the long jump at 17-3 (both No. 1 in New Jersey among freshmen); Delsea senior Reese Gebhard won the pole vault with a 10-0 clearance; Delsea senior Lillie Widmer won the 800 in 2:21.09; Highland senior Grace Wassell was first in the 1,600 in 5:14.36; Delsea’s Reese Gebhard won the pole vault at 10-0; and Willingboro sophomore Chanel Swain was first in the shot put at 35-11 ¼. Big PR Saturday for Bishop Eustace graduate Connor Melko, who won the mile at the Big Apple Invitational at Ocean Breeze in 4:08.55.

Melko, a senior at Lehigh, ran the No. 4 time in school history and lowered his PR from 4:10.12 in his last race, last weekend in the Scarlet Knight Open at the Armory.

The 4:08.55 qualified Melko for the IC4A Championships March 3-4 in Boston.

Melko finished two steps ahead of Connor McMenamin, a former Bucknell and Penn State runner. The next collegiate runner in the field was Melko’s current Lehigh teammate, sophomore Aidan Lynch, who was 3rd in 4:11.23.

Melko has shown great range at Lehigh, from 1:52.62 for 800 meters to 14:15.73 for 5,000 meters. His mile PR before this month was 4:14.39 from last year’s Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge at the Armory.
