Winslow sophomore Jasmine Jackson obliterated the meet record and South Jersey record and ran the 3^rd-fastest time in state history Sunday in the Meet of Champions 55-meter hurdles final at Ocean Breeze.

Jackson, who set a South Jersey-record 7.87 earlier Sunday in the trials, blazed a 7.63 in the final, breaking her newly mintd South Jersey record by a full 5^th of a second and smashing the meet record of 7.82 set in 2015 by four-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughin.

Her time is 3^rd-fastest in the U.S. this year, according to the MileSplit national database and it looks like 3^rd-fastest ever by a U.S. sophomore. McLaughlin still holds the state sophomore record of 7.60 from 2015 Armory Nationals.

Atlantic County Tech junior Brianna Growalt placed 2^nd in 7.83, also under the old South Jersey record and 3^rd-fastest in meet history, behind Jackson and McLaughlin. Growalt, whose previous PR was a 7.93 at Easterns at the Armory last week, is now 7^th-fastest in state history and 2^nd-fastest all-time in South Jersey. She’s also No. 4 in the U.S. this year.

Before Sunday, the fastest hurdles time ever recorded by a South Jersey girl at the Meet of Champions was a 7.94 by Stey’ce McNeil of Winslow at the 2012 meet at the Bubble. In one race, Jackson and Growalt both ran faster.

Willingboro junior Trinity Brapoh made it a 1-2-3 South Jersey sweep with a PR 8.04 for 3^rd place. Brapoh’s time is 15^th-fastest in meet history and the fastest 3^rd-place performance ever. She’s now No. 14 in South Jersey history at 8.04 and fastest by a Burlington County (or Willingboro) girl since Olympic long jumper Carol Lewis ran 7.92 at the  1981 Philadelphia Track Classic at the Spectrum.
