Williamstown senior Jasiah Williams won his 1st state title and equalled the 10th-fastest 55-meter hurdles time in state history Saturday at the state Group 4 meet at the Bubble in Toms River.
Williams lowered his PR from 7.43 at South Jersey Group 4 Sectionals to 7.41 in the prelims, then blazed a 7.29 in the final, winning by a full 20-100ths of a second over North Brunswick senior Elvin Marte Feliz, 2ndin 7.49.
That’s the fastest time in the state this year and makes Gibbons the No. 1 seed going into the Meet of Champions next month at Ocean Breeze.
Williams became Williamstown’s 1st indoor state champion since Devin Bradham won the high jump in 2015 and first ever on the track.
That 7.29 is tied for 6th-fastest in South Jesey history and 3rd on the all-time Gloucester County list, behind national scholastic champions Yashaya Brown of Washington Township in 2024 and Sincere Rhea of St. Augustine in 2019.
He also broke the school record of 7.36 set two years ago by Alexander Hollimon two years ago at the Bubble. Hollimon is now at South Carolina State and has run 8.05 over the 42-inch college hurdles over 60 meters.
