Big shot put PR lands freshman Shawn Brady from Bishop Eustace in all-time Rutgers top-10!!!!!!!!

Rutgers freshman Shawn Brady from Bishop Eustace popped a nearly two-foot shot put PR Friday and moved into the all-time Rutgers top-10 in just his 4th collegiate meet.

Brady placed 3rd at the Scarlet Knight Open at the Armory with a throw of 51-11 ¾, surpassing his week-old PR by 22 inches.

Brady moved into the No. 10 spot on the all-time Rutgers indoor performance list, joining Cinnaminson’s Kamron Kobolak [56-5 ¼ in New York in 2022 in 4th] and Edgewood’s Art Dreher [56-3 in Boston in 1999 in 5th] as the second South Jersey thrower in Rutgers’ top-10.

Brady, from Mullica Hill, actually PR’d twice and finished with the three-best throws of his life with the 16-pound ball.

He opened with a 48-9 ½ before back-to-back PRs of 51-11 ¼ and 51-11 ¾. After a couple fouls he closed with another 51-footer at 51-7 ¾.

That 51-11 ¾ is the best throw by a Rutgers freshman in six years, since Kyle Lipscomb from Linden threw 52-11 in South Bend, Ind., in February 2020.

Brady’s 51-11 ¾ ranks 8th among Big Ten Conference freshmen.

Brady threw 59-10 ¾ at Eustace in the shot and 181-10 in the discus.

Rider freshman Damere Lassiter from Glassboro placed 4th with a 51-5 ¾ on his 3rd throw of the competition. Lassiter hit his PR 52-10 at last year’s Penn Relays. His indoor PR is 52-6 from the Ott Center last month.
