In her first high school 800, Haddonfield’s Dylan Hosty smashed the South Jersey freshman indoor 800 record Wednesday at the Ott Center.
Hosty ran 2:14..66, breaking the South Jersey freshman class record of 2:14.99 set by Washington Township’s Kami Joi Hickson when she won the 2017 state Group 4 race at the Bubble.
Hosty’s time is No. 6 in Camden County history and No. 5 in New Jersey this year. Her time is 4th-fastest among U.S. freshmen this year behind according to the MileSplit database.
Carly Godfrey of Ocean City is No. 1 in South Jersey this indoor season with her 2:14.13 last week at Ocean Breeze, and Hosty is now No. 2.
Hosty ran negative splits of 68.18 and 66.49, closing in 31.83 for her final 200. This was Hosty’s first high school 800, but she did run 2:18.90 indoors last year on the same track against high school runners as an 8th-grader at Haddonfield Middle School.
Haddonfield senior Riley Austin was 2nd in 2:17.30, Cherokee senior Sofia Recinto placed 3rd in 2:18.73, West Deptford senior Kayla Romanoski ran 2:18.76 for 4th, Winslow sophomore Amariah Arango took 5th in 2:19.31, and Mainland Regional senior Madison Taylor was 6th in 2:19.39.
