Lenape senior Dev’yne Smith popped the No. 4 indoor triple jump in Burlington County history Saturday at the Bubble, missing the county record by 3 ¼ inches.
Smith jumped 45-0 ¼ and placed 2nd to Elizabeth senior Jaydan Cadet, who jumped 45-9 ¾. Smith is now No. 2 in South Jersey this year behind Glassboro sophomore Moses Robles, who jumped 46-4 ½ at the Ott last month. His jump places him No. 20 on the all-time South Jersey indoor list.
Smith came into the indoor season with PRs of 42-5 ½ outdoors and 42-2 ¼ indoors. He improved his PR to 42-9 at the Ott Center in December and then 43-1 ¾ at the Ott last week before his breakthrough on his 3rd and final jump Saturday.
Smith broke the Lenape indoor record of 43-10 ¾ set by Jermaine Owens at 2014 Easterns at the Armory. Lenape’s outdoor school record is 45-4 ½ set by Karl Reed at the 2007 state Group 4 meet at Egg Harbor Township.
Zakiyy Williams of Rancocas Valley set the Burlington County indoor triple jump record of 45- 3 ½ at the 2015 Varsity Classic at the Armory.
