Ocean City junior Carly Godfrey broke the 12-year-old Cape May County indoor 800 record with the 10th-fastest time in South Jersey history Monday at Ocean Breeze.
Godfrey won the 800 in 2:14.13 with perfectly even splits of 67.06 and 67.07, breaking the Cape May and school record of 2:14.64 set in by Bridget Flynn at 2014 Armory Nationals.
Her time is 4th-fastest in New Jersey this year behind Eastern’s Natalie Dumas and two runners from a Scotch Plains-based all-star team. It’s No. 15 nationally on the MileSplit U.S. performance list.
Godfrey ran 2:11.25 this past June at the state Group 3 meet in Somerset, 15th-fastest in South Jersey history.
Also in that 800 Monday at Ocean Breeze, West Deptford senior Kayla Romanoski ran an indoor PR 2:18.48 for 3rd place. Her previous indoor best was 2:19.57 in January 2024, also at Ocean Breeze. She ran her overall PR 2:17.63 at Delsea in May 2024. Her 2:18.48 breaks West Deptford’s indoor school record of 2:18.77 set by Samantha Budd at the 2012 Meet of Champions in Toms River. Budd went on to win the state Group 2 title outdoors in 2:14.78 in South Plainfield.
Her time is No. 12 on the all-time Gloucester County list and fastest by a Gloucester County half-miler indoors since 2020
