Williamstown junior Timia Waters smashed the Gloucester County indoor triple jump record Saturday at the Armory.
Waters jumped 38-8 ¾ on her 6th and final attempt at the Hispanic Games, breaking her own county indoor record of 37-6 3/4, which she set last month at the Ott Center.
Waters’ jump is No. 4 in South Jersey history. She placed 2nd to Randolph senior Seannah Parsons, who jumped 39-4. They are No. 2 and 3 in New Jerey this year behind an athlete from a Scotch Plains all-star team, who jumped 39-6 ½ last month at the Armory.
Waters’ jump is best by a Gloucester County girl indoors or out in 14 years, since Glassboro’s Zenee Gadson won the 2012 state Group 1 title at Old Bridge with a 39-7 ½. Her jump is best ever indoors or out by a Williamstown girl. Two girls jumped 38-0 ¼ outdoors – Caleah Allen at 2012 Group 4 states also at Old Bridge and Nalah Abul-Qasim at 2019 Group 4 states in Somerset.
Waters fouled on her first two attempts and needed to jump at least 36 feet on her third just to advance to the finals. She hit 37-4 to reach the finals, where she went 37-5 ¼ and 36-8 ½ before her first lifetime 38-footer.
Winslow senior Ma’syiah Brawner, who is 3rd in South Jersey history indoors at 39-4, placed 5thwith a 37-9 on her 1st attempt. Brawner jumped a PR 40-6 ¼ at West Philly Nationals last spring and was the 2024 outdoor Meet of Champions winner.
