Williamstown junior Timia Waters smashed the Gloucester County indoor triple jump record Saturday and moved into the all-time top-10.
Waters jumped 37-6 ¾ at the season-opening SJTCA meet at the Ott Center in West Philly on her only legal jump of the competition.
Coming into the season, Waters had a triple jump PR of 35-10 from 8th place at the state Group 4 meet in Somerset in May and an indoor PR of 32-3 ½ from a SJTCA meet this past January, also at the Ott Center.
Waters broke the Gloucester County indoor record of 36-9 ¼ set by Kingsway’s Jasmin Jones at the 2016 Easterns at the Armory. Her jump is No. 9 in South Jersey history indoors.
Four Gloucester County jumpers – including two from Williamstown – have gone farther outdoors: Zenee Gadson set the county overall record of 39-7 ½ at the 2012 state Group 1 meet in Old Bridge (but never triple jumped indoors), Jessica Mills of West Deptford jumped 39-6 when she won the 2005 Meet of Champions in South Plainfield, Williamstown’s Nalah Abul-Qasim set the overall Williamstown mark of 38-0 ¼ at the 2019 state Group 4 meet in Somerset and Williamstown’s Caleah Allen jumped 38-0 ¼ at the 2012 state Group 4 meet, also at Old Bridge.
So Waters is No. 5 all-time on the combined Gloucester County indoor / outdoor list.
The versatile Waters has PRs of 15.00 in the 100-meter highs, 17-1 ½ in the long jump, 7.54 in the 55 and 8.46 in the 55-meter highs.
