Cinnaminson’s Austin Gabay placed 6th in the Big East Championships Friday, helping Butler win its 3rd championship in the last six years.
Gabay ran a lifetime all-course best 23:16.92 over 8,000 meters at Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Neb., helping Butler outscore Georgetown 26-42. Defending champion Villanova was 3rd with 62. Butler went 1-2-5-6-12, so Gabay was Butler’s 4th runner but finished ahead of the 2nd runners from Villanova and Georgetown and the 1st runner from every other school.
Butler also won titles in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
Gabay’s previous all-course best for an 8K was 23:21.1 last month at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo.
Butler is ranked 14th in NCAA Division 1 and No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region.
