BRIDGETON’S ZAMIR CHANCE WINS MEET OF CHAMPIONS TRIPLE JUMP!!!!!!!!

Bridgeton senior Zamir Chance capped a remarkable season Wednesday by winning the triple jump at the Meet of Champions at Pennsauken.

Chance jumped 47-3 ¾ – into a 2.6 meters-per-second wind – on his 2nd attempt and finished 4 ¾ inches ahead of senior Josiah Williams of Mainland, who handed him his only two losses in New Jersey competitions this year.

Other than the Penn Relays, Chance lost only at the Woodbury Relays and Cape-Atlantic Conference meets, where he was 2nd to Williams. He went undefeated in championship season, winning South Jersey Group 4 sectionals at 48-3, winning the state Group 4 title with a personal-best and wind-legal 48-9 – No. 5 in South Jersey history – and then becoming Bridgeton’s first MoC winner in 10 years on Wednesday.

Williams was 2nd with a 46-11 jump on his 5th attempt. Chance also had a 46-11 ¾, so he had the two-best jumps of the meet.

It was the first 1-2 South Jersey finish in the Meet of Champions triple jump since 2009, when Glassboro’s Ryan Chance – Any relation? Anybody? – won with a 47-7 ½ and Chris Rountree of Haddon Heights was 2nd with a 47-6 ½.

Chance is the first Bridgeton Meet of Champions winner since Markquese Bell, the current Dallas Cowboy, won the high jump at 6-10 in 2015.

Bridgeton had 10 Meet of Champions winners in the 1990s with five double winners: high jumper Dwayne Robinson, sprinter Curtis McIntyre, Ray Wilks in the shot, Royce Reed in the javelin and intermediates – one of the wildest doubles ever – and Nick Brown in the 200 and long jump. Full list of Bridgeton Meet of Champions winners is below.
