Josh Awotunde unloaded his best shot put of the year Saturday at the at the University of Arizona’s Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson.
Awotunde, a Delsea graduate, won the USTF Throws Fest with a toss of 70-2 ½ on his 1st attempt of the competition.
That’s his best throw since a 71-5 ¼ at the U.S. Olympic Trials last June. Awotunde only had two legal throws in his series, the 70-2 ½ on his 1st attempt and a 69-3 ½ on his 5th.
Awotunde’s throw is No. 11 in the world this year and No. 5 among U.S. throwers.
Awotunde is No. 22 in world history and No. 12 among Americans with his 73-1 ½ for 3rd place at the 2002 World Championships in Eugene, where he placed 3rd.
