Egg Harbor’s Ahmad Brock, a senior at Monmouth, joined the 25-foot club Saturday on his final attempt at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway.
Brock jumped 25-3 ½ with the maximum allowable legal tailwind at 2.0 meters per second. His mark is No. 2 in Monouth history, behind only Khalid Slocum, whose best jump was 25-11 ¼ in Charlottesville on April 19, 2019 – exactly six years before Brock’s jump.
Brock’s previous PR was a 24-7 two weeks ago in a meet in Fairfax, Va. Brock’s 25-3 ½ is No. 1 in the Coastal Athletic Conference. He’s also run 10.63 in the 100 this spring, and he’s No. 6 in school history in the triple jump at 48-3 ½, although he hasn’t triple jump in over a year.
On the all-time South Jersey alumni performance list, Brock becomes the 11th known 25-footer and moves into the No. 9 spot. His jump appears to be the best ever by an Atlantic County native, 1 ½ inches past Paul Klemic of Mainland and Stockton, who jumped 25-2 in 2005.
Brock opened with a 23-3 1/4 , a foul and a 23-7 ¾ and another foul. He popped the PR on his fifth attempt before passing his final jump.
His jump is the best wind-legal jump by an athlete in the CAA – which used to be the Colonial Athletic Conference and is now the Coastal Athletic Conference – since Kyle Darrow of Northeastern jumped 25-10 ¼ to place 6th at the 2018 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
