The Winslow boys – KaRon Ali, Kristopher Jackson, Jayden Poteat and Dominic Bassey – destroyed the South Jersey sprint medley record Friday at Boston Nationals.
Winslow ran 3:26.14, which not only took nearly 1 ½ seconds off the South Jersey indoor sprint medley record but is one of the top 10 times in South Jersey history indoors or outdoors.
Ali and Jackson got the stick around for their 200 legs in 44.21, Poteat split 48.32 for the 400 and Bassey anchored in 1:53.63.
Winslow broke the South Jersey indoor record of 3:27.60 set by Vineland’s Dale Coleman, Marcus Lee, Schafer Sherrer and Shannon Sherrer at the 2003 New Balance Games at the Armory.
Their time is No. 3 in state history. Toms River North placed 2nd in the race in 3:25.68 and St. Benedict’s ran 3:25.88 at 2012 Armory Nationals with Edward Cheserek splitting 1:50.5 on the 800.
Winslow’s performance is also 2nd-fastest by a South Jersey school indoors or outdoors in the last 20 years. Moorestown ran 3:25.06 in 2017 at Greensboro Nationals with Brandon Outlaw splitting 46.7 and Kevin Fox 1:52.4. Zion Howard and Josh Pearcy ran the 200s.
Winslow’s time is No. 8 on the combined South Jersey indoor-outdoor list.
