Jason Agyemang won his 1st national title with the 3rd-fastest time in NCAA Division 3 history, and Rowan took four of the top five spots in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday at the D-3 Championships.
Agyemang, a sophomore from North Plainfield, won the final at Nazareth University’s Galisano Center in Pittsford, N.Y., in 7.76, with freshman Jamir Brown from Riverside 2nd in 7.80, senior Marquise Young from Sterling 4th with a lifetime-best 7.83 and junior Kwaku Nkrumah 5th in 7.92.
Rowan hadn’t scored a point in the meet until the hurdles final, where they picked up 27 (10-8-5-4), and that elevated them into 2nd place, just two points behind Wisconsin La Crosse.
Agyemang missed the meet record by 1-100th of a second. Luke Campbell of Salisbury ran 7.75 at last year’s meet in Lincoln, Neb.
The only faster times in Division 3 history are Brown’s 7.72 at Ocean Breeze earlier this year, and Campbell’s 7.75.
Brown, who graduated from Riverside last spring, earned All-America honors in his first season of college track and finished only 4-100ths of a second out of a national championship.
Young lowered his lifetime best from 7.84 – which he ran in Friday’s trials – to 7.83 in fourth place, 7th-fastest in NCAA Division 3 history. And Nkrumah ran just 5-100ths of a second off his lifetime-best 7.87, which he ran earlier this month in Ithaca.
This unprecedented performance leaves the current Rowan team with four of the 12-fastest hurdlers in NCAA Division 3 history:
Jayson Ekiyor, a senior at Bethel (Minn.) University Christian College, broke up a potential Rowan 1-2-3-4 finish in 3rd place, lowering his PR from 7.88 from Friday’s prelims to 7.83. To break a tie with Young, their times wer broken down to 1-1,000ths of a second, and Ekiyor was given a 7.824 and Young 7.828.
Agyemang, Brown and Nkrumah will be the top-three returning hurdlers in Division 3 for the 2026 indoor season.
