Highland’s Jayden DeLeon recorded the No. 5 high jump clearance in the U.S. this year Friday at sectionals in Toms River.

DeLeon cleared 6-10 ¼ on his 3rd attempt at the South Jersey Group 3 sectionals at the Bubble. DeLeon broke the overall New Jersey sectional record of 6-10 set by Mark Jones of Summit at the 2010 Central Jersey Group 2 meet.

DeLeon’s mark is the best by a South Jersey jumper indoors or outdoors since Mike Morrison set the state indoor record of 7-4 ¼ at the Varsity Classic at the Armory in 2003.

It’s the highest clearance by any New Jersey jumper in seven years, since Jadon Watson of Kennedy High in Paterson at 2018 Armory Nationals.

It’s also No. 2 on the all-time Camden County indoor list, behind Terry Ferguson of Cherry Hill West, who cleared 7-0 in 1987. But it’s not an overall school record. Reggie Williams cleared 7-0 at the 1997 outdoor Meet of Champions at South Plainfield.

Eastern junior Natalie Dumas shattered the South Jersey record for 300 meters Saturday at the 117th annual Millrose Games.

Dumas ran 38.19 over the 200-meter banked track at the Armory and trimmed nearly a second off the South Jersey mark of 39.16, set by Winslow Township’s Krystal Cantey at the 2006 Archbishop Malloy Stanner Games at the Armory.

That’s 25.46 pace for 200 meters over an extra half lap for Dumas, the national champ in the intermediate hurdles last spring with a 58.32 – 4th-fastest in state history.

Her 300 is 5th-fastset in state history, behind two Olympic gold medalists – Sydney McLaughlin and Athing Mu – as well as Taylor Aska of Union Catholic, who ran 37.79 earlier this year at the Armory, and Lawrenceville School’s Sofia Swindell, who ran 37.79 Saturday at Millrose.

Timber Creek senior Ryan Jennings ran 38.71 in the same race, and that’s now No. 2 in South Jersey history ahead of Cantey, and No. 9 in state history.

Dumas and Jennings now rank 9th and 16th in the U.S. this year on the MileSplit national performance list. Dumas is No. 2 among juniors.

Dumas is now No. 38 among U.S. women this winter and Jennings is No. 57. She’s No. 7 among U.S. juniors and No. 10 on the world junior list.

Pleasantville’s Gabriel Moronta shattered the University of South Florida indoor 400-meter dash record Saturday at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational at Boston University.

Moronta, a senior, won the race in 46.04 and broke the school record of 46.35 set by Nathan Metelus last February at the American Conference Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Moronta’s previous indoor 400 PR was a 46.24 in February of 2023 at Clemson in his final meet for Mississippi State before transferring to South Florida. His outdoor PR is 45.81 at the American Conference Championships this past May in San Antonio.

In the same race, Rutgers sophomore Bryce Tucker from Pennsauken ran an indoor collegiate 400 PR of 47.53 in 6th place. That’s No. 7 on the all-time Rutgers indoor performance list. He ran 47.88 last January in a meet in Boston (on a different track). Tucker ran 3-100ths of a second faster as a Pennsauken senior, a 47.50 at the 2023 Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze. Deptford’s Lathan Brown, also a Rutgers sophomore, ran a indoor-outdoor lifetime-best 48.02 for 9th in the race. Tucker and Brown are both intermediate hurdles in the spring.

Moronta and Tucker also went head-to-head on the 1,600-meter relay. Both ran the second leg. Moronta split 45.88 and Tucker 47.45.

South Florida won in 3:07.59 and Rutgers was 2nd in 3:10.68. Brown ran leadoff for R.U. in 47.98.

For the first time in 22 years, the Willingboro girls are Millrose Games champions.

Kaila Speight, Nester Wea, Jaden Murry and Maya Bolden teamed up to win the Suburban 1,600-Meter Relay Saturday at the 117th annual Millrose Games at the Armory.

The Chimeras ran 3:55.04, winning by 30 meters over Nyack High of Upper Nyack, N.Y., which placed 2nd in 3:59.56. Splits were posted on the results site earlier but have since disappeared for reasons I don’t understand.

This is the 5th time Willingboro has won Millrose but the first since 2003, when Chanel Hamilton, Halimah Bashir, Rhea Mann and Okechi Ogbuokiri won in 4:04.19 despite Mann getting tripped and falling to the track on the third leg.

Willingboro also won in 1998 in 3:56.66 with Latasha Taylor, Takia Canty, Kendra Brown and Shakirah Rutherford, in 1999 in 3:57.47 with Taylor, Danielle Myricks, Canty and Rutherford and in 4:01.11 in 2002 with Hamilton, Bashir, Mann and Ogbuokiri.

This is the 4th straight year a different South Jersey school has won the suburban relay. Rancocas Valley won in 2022, Timber Creek in 2023 and Winslow Township last year.

Other South Jersey schools to win the girls race: Camden in 1995, the first year it was contested, Seneca in 2009 and Winslow in 2017 and 2018.

Willingboro’s time is 9th-fastest in Burlington County history.It’s 2nd-fastest in New Jersey this year, behind Winslow’s 3:46.87 at Ocean Breeze last week.

Freshman Jasmine Jackson won two events and placed 3rd in another and junior Ma’Syiah Brawner picked up a 1st and a 2nd and the Winslow girls won their 5th sectional title in seven years Saturday in Toms River.

Jackson ran 58.05 to win the 400 and 8.25 to win the hurdles and ran 7.21 for 3rd place in the hurdles for 26 total points.

Brawner won the high jump at 5-2 – she took three jumps without a miss to win the competition – and was 2nd in the hurdles in 8.43.

Winslow outscored 2nd-place Ocean City 106-75. Winslow won four straight titles from 2018 through 2022 – there was no meet in 2021.

Winslow also got a win in the 4-by-4, with junior Olivia Okaro, freshman Amariah Arango, Skyhe Seamon and junior Leeya Joseph running 4:04.05.

Okaro also placed 2nd in the 55 in 7.19 and Arango was 2nd in the 800 in 2:20.73 and 4th in the 400 in 59.31.

Junior Cinniya Robinson placed 2nd in the 400 in 59.14, senior Brook-lynn Roberts PRd with a 41-11 for 2nd in the shot put, sophomore Justice Green took 4th in the hurdles with a PR 8.75, senior Ava Millner ran an indoor PR 2:21.60 for 4th in the 800, sophomore Tammy Ellis was 5th in the 55 with a 7.42 and junior Nyla Williams tied her PR of 9-6 to take 3rd in the pole vault.

Ocean City swept the 1,600 and 3,200 and went 1-6 in the 800 for 59 of its 75 points in the three long track races.

In the 1,600, senior Maeve Smith ran 5:05.10, sophomore Carly Godfrey took 2nd just 1-100th of a second back in 5:05.11 – that’s essentially a dead heat – and senior Chloe Care was 3rd in 5:09.32. In the 3,200, Smith doubled back to win in 11:16.16, freshman Riley Tolson was 2nd in 11:16.52 and Care took 3rd in 11:27.47. And in the 800, Godfrey ran 2:18.69 for the win and freshman Lillian Flora took 6th in 2:21.90.

Ocean City also placed 2nd in the 4-by-4, with Alana Clevenger, Callie Duff, Julianne Goodman and Godfrey running 4:13.68.

Duff also cleared 5-0 in the high jump for 2nd place.

Timber Creek senior Ryan Jennings won the 55 in 7.00, which tied the South Jersey overall sectional record set last year by teammate Naylah Jones.

Senior Jaidah Garrett placed 3rd in the 400 in 59.55 and anchored Absegami’s 3rd-place 4-by-4, which ran 4:13.94. Junior Samia Ghazaz, sophomore Analyse Pagan and junior Averie Caregena also ran for the Braves.

Clearview sophomore Nyla Jackson-Smith PR’d at 8.55 to place 3rd in the high hurdles and Shawnee senior Sandra Cutbush PR’d with 2:20.75 for 3rd in the 800.

For Mainland, sophomore Gianna Shea cleared 10-0 for 2nd in the pole vault and senior Aryanna Perez placed 3rd in the high jump with a 4-10 clearance.

Delsea junior Hannah Nuhfer threw 38-6 for 3rd in the shot put, and Timber Creek junior Nasira Gordon tied for 3rd with a 4-10 in the high jump.

Seniors Dominic Bassey and Jayden Poteat and junior KaRon Ali swept the 400-meter dash for 24 points on the way to the team title Saturday at the South Jersey Group 3 sectional championships in Toms River.

Winslow edged 2nd-place Delsea 70-64 to win its 3rd sectional title and first since 2020. The Eagles also won South Jersey Group 3 in 2008, the first year of indoor sectionals.

In that 24-point 400, Bassey ran an indoor PR 50.79 in his first 400 this winter for the win, Poteat ran 51.63 for 2nd and Ali was 3rd in 51.63.

Winslow also scored big points in the 55, with Poteat winning in 6.56 and Ali 4th in 6.65, and the 800, where Bassey ran 1:59.95 for 2nd and senior David Duran was 5th with an indoor-best 2:02.09.

Junior Prince Owos-Twum, Ali, Bassey and Poteat ran 3:27.67 to win the 4-by-4 and clinch the team title.

Julian Rich scored eight points with a 2nd-place in the 3,200 in 9:53.32, a PR for the Camden County Vo-Tech student, and senior Kristopher Jackson broke eight seconds for the first time in the hurdles, placing 5th in 7.98.

Delsea junior Matthew Littlehales swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 with 1:59.12, 4:27.75 and 9:50.44 and the Crusaders also got wins in the pole vault from senior Henry Cifaloglio at 14-6 and 58-7 in the shot from Jonathan Harris.

Depetford senior Ryan Sanchez ran a PR 7.42 to win the 55-meter hurdles. That’s fastest in New Jersey this year and No. 5 on the all-time Gloucester County list.

Highland senior Jayden DeLeon won the high jump with a monster 6-10 ¼ lifetime-best jump. That broke the overall meet record of 6-10 set in 2008 in Central Jersey Group 2 by Matawan’s Mike McGuiness and matched in 2010 by Summit’s Mark Jones in North 2 Group 2.

His clearance is No. 5 in South Jersey history and best since legendary Mike Morrison of Willingboro cleared 7-4 ¼ at the 2003 Nike Indoor Classic at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Summerfield, Md. It’s also No. 13 in state history and No. 5 in the U.S. this year, according to the MileSplit national database.

Freshman Hope Edwards was a double winner, and senior Hannah Byrd-Leitner picked up a first and a third, and ther Moorestown girls won their first sectional track title Thursday in Toms River.

Moorestown edged Pennsauken 79-68 to win the Central Jersey Group 3 title at the Bubble. Colts Neck, which had won five straight CJ-3 titles, was 3rd with 36 points, and Northern Burlington, with double winner Liliah Gordon, was 5th with 24 points.

Junior Sianni Wynn was a triple winner for Pennsauken.

Moorestown scored 41 points in the 400, 800 and 4-by-400. In the 400, Edwards ran 59.28 and finished 2nd to Wynn and senior Sarah Brown ran 1:00.11 and placed 3rd. In the 800, Edwards won with a 2:19.32, junior Lilliana Stack Maya placed 3rd with a PR 2:19.80 and freshman Payton Derer was 6th with a PR 2:22.93.

Brown, Derer, Stack Maya and Edwards ran a school record 4:00.40 to win the 4-by-4. Splits unavailable, unfortunately. Bubble results are not ideal.

Byrd-Leitner cleared 12-6 to win the pole vault, tie her indoor PR and break the meet record of 12-0 that she set last year (and no, she never went to Manchster Township, as the NJSIAA’s meet records say). Senior Jaya Stockham PR’d at 10-0 for 2nd place in the vault, and junior Meredith Ortiz cleared 8-0 for 5th place. That’s 20 total points in the vault.

Byrd-Leitner also ran a lifetime-best 8.74 for 3rd place in the hurdles.

Senior I’mara Ford, the Meet of Champions runner-up last spring, scored eight big points with a 2nd-place in the high jump at 5-0. And senior Noelia Reyes ran an indoor-outdoor PR of 5:20.65 to place 6th in the 1,600.

For Pennsauken, Wynn tripled the 55, 400 and hurdles with a meet-record 6.93, a 56.68 and a lifetime-best 8.10.

Her 6.93 broke the overall sectional record of 7.00 set last year by Timber Creek in South Jersey Group 3 and broke the Central Jersey mark of 7.25 set in 2010 by Tylia Gillon of Jackson.

Wynn’s 8.10 is 4th-fastest in the state this year in what is a new event for Wynn. It’s also No. 14 in South Jersey history and only 7-100ths off the school record of 8.03 set by Alethia Jenkins when she won 2000 Easterns at the Armory.

Wynn’s 56.68 is less than half a second from the meet record of 56.29 set in 2010 by Seneca’s Michelle Brown, who was inducted into the South Jersey Track Hall of Fame last year.

Pennsauken went 1-2 in the 55 and hurdles, with junior Sanaya Dupree PR’ing at 7.35 for 2nd in the 55 and Olivia PR’ing with 8.38 for 2nd in the hurdles.

Olivia and Sanaya Dupree and seniors Amina Dyer and Ameenah Rodriguez ran 4:07.87 for 2nd place in the 4-by-4.

Freshman Xyhaa’Marah Macklin, seeded 9th going into the meet, won the shot put with a big PR of 32-0 ½. Her previous PR was a 29-7 ¼ at Ocean Breeze earlier in the week. Olivia Dupree also placed 4th in the high jump with a 4-8 clearance.

Gordon ran a fast double with 4:57.94 and a meet-record 10:34.24, which broke the overall sectional and Group 3 meet record by 1-100th of a second. Abby Loveys of Randolph ran 10:34.25 in North 1 Group 3 in 2019. The previous CJ-3 mark was Gordon’s 10:44.02 last year.

Northern junior Emma Price ran a three-second PR 2:22.88 for 5th in the 800 and junior Jessica Colletti PR’d in the shot with a 31-2 ½.

Burlington Township senior Anishka Mitchell placed 3rd in the shot put with an indoor-outdoor PR of 31-6, and Falcons senior Sonae Sims ran a personal-best 8.93 for 6th place in the hurdles.

Delsea graduate Elisia Lancaster won the weight throw at the 117th annual Millrose Games Thursday at the Armory. Although most of the meet is held Saturday, the weight throw is held Thursday.

Lancaster threw 72-1 on her first attempt and won by nearly nine feet over Stephanie Green of the University of Albany, who threw 63-6 for 2nd.

Lancaster had the four-best throws of the competition. She also surpassed 70 feet on her 4th attempt with a 70-6 ¼ and she had throws of 67-8 ¾ and 67-6 ¾.

Lancaster, the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference hammer throw champion as a senior at Southern Illinois, has a weight throw PR of 73-10 ¼ from the Music City Challenge in Nashville in 2022.

Haddonfield’s Brand, Wright, Andrus and Keith ran the 2nd-fastest distance medley in South Jersey history Wednesday night.

Haddonfield ran 10:11.61 and placed 3rd in a ridiculously fast and deep distance medley at the La Salle Winter Series meet at the Ott Center in West Philly.

The race produced three of the 30-fastest times in New Jersey history, with six schools under 10:15 and 15 at 10:40 or faster.

According to the MileSplit national database, the race produced the eight-fastest times in the country so far this winter.

According to the splits listed in the official results, and someone please correct me as I suspect these names aren’t totally correct, Senior Bennett Wright led off with a 3:08.18 split for 1,200 meters, sophomore Jack Brand split 51.32 for 400, junior Aaron Keith  ran 1:57.35 and junior Ben Andrus anchored in 4:14.79.

The only faster time in South Jersey history is Haddonfield’s 10:09.78 winning 2010 Armory Nationals with Colin Baker, Jordan. Harris, Ben Potts and Jonathan Vitez.

Haddonfield also ran a B team with – according to the official results – junior Luke Andressen, senior Case Hurly, junior Brandon Stoner and junior Peter Simpson running 10:29.07 for 10th place (and 17th in South Jersey history). Splits listed are 3:08.80, 55.73, 2:00.34 and 4:24.15.

Camden senior Azir Lee ran the 10th-fastest 200 in state history Saturday at Ocean Breeze.

Lee won the 200 at the 10th annual Ocean Breeze Invitational in 21.47, breaking the Camden County record and moving into the No. 2 spot in South Jersey history.

Lee, who ran 21.78 last spring, came into the meet with an indoor PR of 21.91 from a meet last month at the Ott Center in West Philly. This is Lee’s first season of indoor track.

He lowered his PR to 21.59 in the trials before joining Washington Township’s Ajani Dwyer as the second South Jersey sprinter to run faster than 21.50 indoors. Dwyer ran 21.25 at Ocean Breeze in February. He ran 20.65 last week for Penn State.

Lee broke the Camden County record of 21.72 set just a few weeks ago by Winslow Township’s Jayden Poteat at Ocean Breeze in the same race Lee ran his 21.91.

Lee’s time is fastest ever by a Camden sprinter indoors or out. Sherron Bullock ran 21.63 at the state Group 3 meet at Egg Harbor in 2004.

Woodbury senior Marquis Taylor matched his PR of 21.64 in 2nd place. Taylor also PR’d in the 55 with a 6.40, No. 10 in South Jersey history. He trimmed 1-100th of a second off his 6.41 PR from from two weeks ago at the Ott Center.
