Senior Jayden Poteat won the 400 and placed 2nd in the 8900, senior Dominic Bassey was 2nd in the 800 and 5th in the 400 and both ran on the winning relay team as the Winslow boys won their first indoor state title in 21 years Saturday.
Winslow coasted to a 44-28 win over Colts Neck in the state Group 3 meet at the Bubble in Toms River. Winslow previous won Group 4 in 2003 and Group 3 in 2004.
Poteat won the 400 in 50.09, with senior KaRon Ali 4th in 50.87 and Bassey 5th in 51.00. And Bassey took 2nd – by 8-1,000ths of a second – in the 800 in 1:56.96 and ran 51.00 in the 400.
Junior Prince Owusu-Twum joined Ali, Bassey and Poteat on the winning 4-by-4, which ran 3:25.46.
Senior Kristopher Jackson placed 6th in the hurdles in 7.91, and senior David Duran ran 2:00.75 for 6th in the 800.
Depford senior Ryan Sanchez matched his lifetime-best 7.42 to win the hurdles, with junior teammate Larry Norman 5th in 7.87. Senior Neo Clark-Tabb, junior Kareem Brown, sophomore Xavion Holmes and Sanchez ran 3:31.78 for 4th in the relay.
Highland senior Jayden DeLeon cleared 6-8 to win the high jump.
Delsea junior Matt Littlehales ran 4:15.50 for 2nd in the 1,600. That’s No. 13 in South Jersey history and 4th-fastest on the all-time Gloucester County list. Senior Jonathan Harris threw 59-5 for 2nd in the shot put.
Hammonton shot putters Anthony Liakhnovich and Christian Medina placed 3rd and 5th, Liakhnovich with a 58-9 ¾ and Medina 52-4 ¼.
Timber Creek senior Jayson Ross took 4th in the shot put at 54-0, Mainland junior Chris Keena was 5th in the 55 in 6.55 and Shawnee ran 5th in the relay with seniors Brody Dillich, Nicholas Micklewright, Justin Robinson and Jake Howley running 3:33.35.
