Amazing Dallas Hohney, a week after a ridiculous 1:50.71 six-second 800 PR, shattered Rider’s 500 meter record at the Quaker Invitational at the Ott Center in West Philly.
Hohney, in only the 2nd 500 of his life, ran 1:01.74 and won by four meters over Princeton’s Karl Dietz, who was 2nd in 1:02.19.
Hohney broke the Rider record by more than a second. Darien Edwards out of St. Benedict’s in Newark, ran 1:02.87 in the prelims of the 2016 IC4A Championships at Boston University.
His time is 7th-fastest ever by a New Jersey runner and 4th-fastest by a South Jersey product, fastest since Delsea’s Aaron Younger from Rutgers ran 1:01.38 at the 2012 Big East Championships at the Armory.
In his only previous 500, Hohney ran 1:05.21 last January at Ocean Breeze. Hohney is a sophomore at Rider after competing briefly for Campbell University in Buie’s Creek, N.C.
St. Joe’s grad student Jayden Greene from Washington Township ran a lifetime-best 1:04.09 to place 5th. His previous PR over 500 meters was 1:04.49 at Ocean Breeze last year.
Where else on Earth are you going to find an all-time New Jersey 500-meter list? Nowhere! But we’ve got it!
