Deptford’s Julian Rodriguez posts #3 all-time pole vault in Georgian Court history!!!!!!

Versatile Georgian Court senior Julian Rodriguez, a Deptford graduate, is already the school record holder in the intermediate hurdles and moved into the No. 3 spot in the pole vault in his season-opening meet.

Rodriguez cleared 14-5 ¼ at the Fastrack Season Opener at Ocean Breeze and trails only Jan Volkmar [16-6 ¾ in 2023] and Evan Boyce [14-11 in 2019] on the all-time Georgian Court performance list.

Rodriguez did not compete last spring and didn’t compete after mid-January last year, so it was his 1st meet in about 11 months and only his 2nd since the end of the 2023 outdoor season.

Rodriguez set the school record of 54.15 in the intermediates when he placed 3rd at the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships in Lakewood. He’s also 6th in school history in the 110-meter highs [15.54] and10th in the triple jump [40-1 ¼] and ran the third leg on the school-record 400-meter relay, a 42.55 at Shippensburg back in 2022.

Indoors, he ranks 6th in the 60 hurdles [8.67], 7th in the high jump [5-10 ¾], 8th in the long jump [21-2 ¾] and 3rd in the pole vault [14-5 ¼].

Georgian Court head coach Mike Murawski is a Cinnaminson native and Holy Cross graduate. He was a two-time state Parochial A high jump champ for the Lancers and he holds Duqesne school records in the high jump [6-8 ¼] and decathlon [6,140].

Considering Rodriguez’s versatility and Murawski’s background, it wouldn’t be surprising if there’s a multi in Rodriguez’s future.

Rutgers’ Kristina Tossas from RV pops #1 long jump in NCAA Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Region!!!!!!

Rancocas Valley graduate Kristina Tossas opened her senior year at Rutgers with one of the top long jump performances in the country so far this indoor season.

Tossas won the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the Armory with a jump of 20-0 ¼. That’s No. 1 so far in NCAA Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Region and 11 in NCAA Division 1, according to the TFRRS performance lists.

Tossas fouled on her 1st attempt before hitting 20-0 ¼ on her 2nd. She had two other legal jumps – a 19-0 ¾ and an 18-5 ½.

This was the 5th meet Tossas has surpassed 20 feet and 3rd indoors. She hit her indoor PR of 20-9 ¼ when she won the 2023 Big East Championships in Geneva, Ohio. She also had a 20-5 at last year’s indoor Big East meet, also in Geneva.

She’s gone 20 feet outdoors twice – a wind-aided 20-11 ¾ in a meet this past March in Tampa (she also had a legal 20-1 ¼ at the same meet) and a 20-5 also in Orlando in March of 2023.

Tossas ranks 4th in Rutgers history indoors and she’s also 9th in the triple jump at 39-6. Outdoors, she’s 5th in the long jump at 20-5.

Audubon’s Thomas Weick pops huge high jump PR at the Bubble!!!!!!

Audubon’s Thomas Weick opened his senior year in style with a big PR at the South Jersey Track Coaches Association meet at the Bubble.

Weick cleared 6-4 – as always with Bubble meets, field event series information is not available – and recorded the top Group 1 jump in New Jersey so far this year.

This is a six-inch indoor PR and four-inch lifetime-best for Weick. His best jump indoors as a junior was 5-10, which he cleared four times, including a 5th-place at the state Group 1 meet. Outdoors, he had one 6-0 clearance – early in the season at the West Deptford Relays.

Audubon has a pretty good high jump tradition. Mark Kelly won the state Group 2 title at 6-4 in 1974 at Highland Park and cleared a then-South Jersey-record 6-8 ¼ outdoors at the Woodbury Relays, Mark Anderson won Group 2 in 1975 in Piscataway.

Recently, Aden Tomeo jumped 6-7 at 2020 indoor sectionals at the Bubble and went on to place 3rd at the Meet of Champions at Ocean Breeze.

Early on in the 2024-25 season, Weick’s 6-4 is the top Group 1 jump in the state and No. 3 overall.

Eastern grad A.J. Brooks opens 2024-25 season with 3rd-fastest hurdles time in Monmouth history!!!!!!

A.J. Brooks from Eastern ran the 3rd-fastest hurdles time in Monmouth history in a meet at Penn’s brand-new Ott center.

Brooks opened his junior year by running 8.12 and finishing 2nd to Penn’s Ryan Matulonis of Seton Hall Prep at the Penn Opener. His previous PR was 8.17 this past February in the qualifying heats at the Coastal Athletic Conference Championships at the Armory. It was Brooks’ first race since mid-April.

Brooks’ time is fastest by a Monmouth hurdler in nine years. The only faster times in school history were recorded by Burlington Township graduate Jalen Walker, who ran 7.90 to win the 2015 IC4A title at Boston University, and Geordan Ferguson from Manchester Township, who ran 7.98 at the 2016 Villanova Invitational at Ocean Breeze.

Brooks has also tripled jumped 46-1 ¼ at Monmouth. He didn’t triple jump at Penn in the season opener.

Monmouth is off until the Penn Select Invitational back at the Ott Center on Jan. 11.

Winslow girls open up 2024-25 season with speedy 4-by-4 at Ott Center!!!!!!

The Winslow girls didn’t wait long for the first sub-4 performance from their 1,600-meter relay team.

Winslow ran 3:58.12 to win the 4-by-4 at the season-opening South Jersey Track Coaches Association meet at Penn’s new Ott Center in West Philly Saturday.

Winslow had a 35-meter lead after the leadoff legs and finished 75 meters ahead of 2nd-place Kingsway.

Who ran for the Eagles? Good question. I can tell you junior Olivia Okaro, freshman Jasmine Jackson and sophomore Cinniya Robinson ran the last three legs. Either Adaiah or Amariah Arango led off, but the entry list only shows “A. Arango,” so it could be either one. I’ll wait until someone from Winslow lets me know which freshman raced Saturday and then update the post.

Either way, Adaiah or Amariah led off with a swift 58.06, Okaro ran 61.15, Jackson split 58.84 and Robinson anchored in 60.07.

Winslow also ran hot in the 4-by-2, with Jackson, Okaro, sophomore Skyhe Seamon and freshman Leeya Joseph taking 2nd to Pennsauken in 1:42.97.

Winslow’s 3:58.12 is fastest in New Jersey in the early going this winter, and Pennsauken and Winslow have the two-fastest 4-by-2 times so far.

Here’s a look at the all-time South Jersey indoors lists for both the 4-by-2 and 4-by-4. Guaranteed these lists will change a lot in the next couple months.

Delsea’s Jonathan Harris pops No. 5 indoor shot put in South Jersey history!!!!!!!!

Delsea senior Jonathan Harris tied the No. 5 indoor shot put mark in South Jersey history in the South Jersey Track Coaches Association #2 meet Saturday at Penn’s new Ott Center in West Philly.

Harris threw 62-0 ½ on his 6th and final throw, matching the Delsea school record set by Jason Nwosu at the 2022 South Jersey Group 2 Championships at the Bubble in Toms River.

He was just over a foot shy of the Gloucester County indoor record of 63-1 ¾ set by West Deptford’s Nick Pulli at the 2014 Cherokee Throwdown in Marlton.

Harris had a previous indoor PR of 60-0 ¼ from Cherokee last year. His outdoor PR is 63-0 ½ from Group 3 sectionals this past spring at his home track in Franklinville.

Harris opened with throws of 54- 4 ½, 58-6 ¼ and 58-4 before two fouls. On his final throw, he popped the 62-0 ½, which is the No. 2 throw in the U.S. so far according to the MileSplit national database. Alex Jackson of Peabody (Mass.) High threw 66-6 ¼ at the Northeast Conference Winter Invitational in Boston on Saturday.

The 62-0 ½ puts Harris No. 30 on the all-time New Jersey indoor list.

Williamstown senior Jayron Lewis also surpassed 50 feet in 2nd place with a throw of 52-0 on his 4th attempt. He also had a 51-11 ¼ and a 51-2 ¾. His previous indoor PR was a 42-4 ¼ as a 1st-year junior last winter, although he threw 53-5 outdoors when he placed 5th at Group 4 states in Somerset.

Moorestown senior Hannah Byrd-Leitner matched her indoor pole vault PR with a big 12-6 clearance at the Ott Center Saturday morning in her 2024-25 season opener.

Byrd-Leitner, the outdoor Meet of Champions winner, matched her indoor PR of 12-6 from a meet last December at Philly Jumps Club in Conshohocken. She’s tied for No. 9 in state history indoors and No. 3 in South Jersey history, and her 13-2 at the Meet of Champions last spring at Pennsauken is No. 3 in state history and No. 2 in South Jersey history.

Byrd-Leitner passed through 10 feet and then cleared 10-6, 11-0 and 11-6 on her first attempt. She needed three attempts to get over the bar at 12-0 and 12-6 and then took three tries at 13 feet.

Haddonfield senior Rebecca Hoover, the indoor Meet of Champions runner-up last winter placed 2nd at 10-6, the same height as Rancocas Valley junior La’el Yates, who was 3rd. Hoover has a PR of 12-8 from the Camden County meet last spring at Haddon Township and an indoor PR of 12-3 ¾ from Boston Nationals this past March. Yates has a PR of 10-8 from her win at South Jersey Group 4 sectionals last winter at the Bubble.

Sianni Wynn leads Pennsauken to fastest 4-by-200 in school history at Ott Center!!!!!!

With Sianni Wynn anchoring in 23.55, the Pennsauken girls won the 800-meter relay with a big school record Saturday at the South Jersey Coaches Association #2 meet at the Ott center.

Junior Olivia Dupree, senior Amina Dyer and junior Sanaya Dupree ran the first three legs for Pennsauken, which ran 1:42.54 and edged Winslow, which placed 2nd in 1:42.97.

Pennsauken broke its school record of 1:44.80 set last year at the Hispanic Games at the Armory in New York. Their time is 11th-fastest on the all-time Camden County list, 5-100ths out of the top 10 (Winslow’s 1:42.49 from 2013).

Pennsauken actually ran under its outdoor school record of 1:42.88 from last year’s Woodbury Relays, with Wynn, Sanaya and Olivia Dupree and Ameenah Rodriguez.

Freshman Jasmine Jackson, junior Olivia Okaro, sophomore Skyhe Seamon and freshman Leeya Joseph ran for Winslow.

Liliah Gordon places 23rd at Foot Locker Nationals!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liliah Gordon placed 23rd among the top cross country runners in the country Saturday at the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.

Gordon, a senior at Northern Burlington, ran 18:33.5 with the best finish by a South Jersey girl at Foot Locker since Alyssa Aldridge of Mainland Regional placed 13th in 2016. Her finish is best ever by a Burlington County girl at Foot Locker. Cherokee’s Megan Lacy placed 24th in 2010.

Sadie Krueger of Hawaii, who like Gordon attended Northern Burlington Middle School, placed 36th in 19:21.9 as one of just two freshmen in the entire race. Krueger’s family moved to Hawaii after she finished 8th grade, and she’s now a freshman at Moanalua High School in Honolulu.

Gordon placed 7th in the Northeast Regional in Boston two weeks ago and Krueger placed 6th in the West Regional in Walnut, Calif., last weekend. The top 10 runners in each of four regions qualify for the National Championships over 5,000 meters at Balboa Park in San Diego.

Other than Gordon, the only other qualifier from New Jersey was Allison Lee of West Windsor-Plainsboro North. Lee placed 29th in 18:50.3. Gordon and Lee placed 1-2 in the state Group 3 race at Holmdel County Park last month.

Gordon placed 33rd last year in 18:49. She’s the 12 New Jersey girl in the meet’s 45-year history to qualify for Nationals in consecutive years, joining Janet Smith of J.P. Stevens [1981, 1982, 1983], Jodi Bilotta [1985, 1986, 1987] and Anne Letko [1985, 1986] of North Hunterdon, Christi Constantin of Kittatinny Regional [1987, 1988], Monal Chokshi of Bridgewater-Raritan [1989, 1990, 1991], Ocean City’s Brittany Sedberry [2003, 2004], Kingsway’s Chelsea Ley [2007, 2008, 2009], Caroline Kellner of West Windsor-Plainsboro South [2010, 2011], Aldridge [2015, 2016], Abby Loveys of Randolph [2017, 2018] and Nicole Vanasse of Pingry [2018, 2019]

Winslow’s Jasmine Jackson smashes South Jersey freshman hurdles record in first high school race!!!!!!

In her first high school race – and the first high school meet ever held at the Ott Center – Winslow freshman Jasmine Jackson broke the South Jersey freshman class hurdles record Saturday morning in the South Jersey Track Coaches Association #2 meet.

Jackson won the 55-meter high hurdles in 8.42, breaking the South Jersey freshman record of 8.46 set by Millville’s Leah Ellis at 2019 Group 4 sectionals at the Bubble. Tonya Lee ran a hand-timed 8.4

The South Jersey Track Coaches Association #2 meet was the second meet and first high school meet at the brand-new $69 million Ott Center at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jackson won the 100-meter hurdles over the summer in the 14-year-old age group at the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, N.C., with a 13.72. She also ran 24.45 and 58.48 as an 8th-grader.

Pennsauken junior Sianni Wynn was 2nd in the hurdles out of a difference heat. Wynn, the national runner-up at 100 meters last spring at West Philly Nationals across the Amtrak tracks at Franklin Field, ran 8.52, lowering her PR from 8.75 at the Bubble last winter in her only previous indoor hurdles race.
