Jonathan Harris keeps inching closer to the South Jersey shot put record, and for the second time in three days he improved on the No. 2 throw in South Jersey history.
Harris, a Delsea senior, threw 65-6 at the Len Pietrewicz Invitational at the Armory on Monday, improving on his 65-2 ½ at the Ott Center in West Philly on Saturday.
That’s No. 2 in South Jersey history indoors or out behind Braheme Days 70-8 at 2012 Easterns at the Armory.
Once again, no series information.
Harris remains No. 2 nationally, according to the MileSplit U.S. database, nut he’s only about a foot behind Alex Jackson of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, who threw 66-6 ¼ on Dec. 14 at something called the NEC Winter Invitational in Boston, and I spent about 10 minutes trying to find out what NEC stands for and it’s never written out anywhere so let’s just guess it means Northeastern Conference.
Harris’s throw is 9th-best in state history indoors – moving up from 10th – and 19th-best in state history on the combined indoor / outdoor list – up from 20th.
He broke his own Gloucester County indoor record for the second time this month.
Other South Jersey 50-footers so far this indoor season are Hammonton senior Anthony Liakhnovich [60-2], Delsea senior Savien Higgs [53-4 ¾] and Williamstown senior Jayron Lewis [52-9 ¼].
