Timber Creek senior Naylah Jones, junior Ryan Jennings, junior Billie Frazier and sophomore Samiyah Puckett shattered the South Jersey 400-meter relay record Friday at the South Jersey Group 3 Sectionals at Delsea.
Jones, Jennings, Frazier and Puckett won the race in 46.19, breaking the South Jersey record of 46.43 set last June by a Timber Creek team with Jennings, Chloe Jones, Nyla Jones and Naylah Jones at West Philly Nationals at Franklin Field.
Timber Creek broke the overall New Jersey sectional record of 47.14 set in 2014 by Piscataway by nearly a second. The fastest previous 4-by-1 in any South Jersey sectional was Timber Creek’s 47.32 last year and the previous SJ-4 record was 47.60 set in 2018 by Egg Harbor Township.
The time is fastest by any New Jersey public school in 14 years, since Columbia won the race at New Balance Outdoors in Greensboro, N.C., in 2010.
The only other faster times in state history are Montclair’s state-record 45.50 at the 1998 Penn Relays; a North Jersey parochial school’s 46.06 earlier this month at the Union County Relays and Trenton’s 46.09 with Wendy Vereen in 1984 (haven’t found the meet yet).
