A look at every team battle in South Jersey after Day 1 of sectionals!!!!!!

After a wild Day 1 of sectionals, let’s catch our breath and take a look at each team battle going into Saturday.

(And let’s hope somebody drops a wind gauge off at Pennsauken High by tomorrow morning!)

Boys finals Saturday: 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 1,600-meter run, 110-meter hurdles, 1,600- and 3,200-meter relays, long jump, pole vaut, shot put and javelin.

Girls finals Saturday: 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 1,600-meter run, 100-meter hurdles, 1,600-and 3,200-meter relays, triple jump, high jump and discus.

Boys
Group 1

Glassboro, seeking its first sectional title since 2009, built up a 34-point lead over Woodbury on Day 1 at Pennsauken. Glassboro got wins from its 4-by-1 team, senior Damere Lassiter in the discus and senior Cartrell Moore in the triple jump.

Group 2
Camden, also seeking its first team title since 2009, leads Willingboro by 11 points at 44-33, with Sterling and Haddonfield at 28 and Cedar Creek 22. Camden got a win in the 4-by-1, a 1-2-4 finish from Jaiden Steele, Jawan Brownlee and Ibn Muhammad in the 100 and win from high jumper Teron Murray.

Group 3
Winslow is up 46-36 on host Delsea, with Hammonton 3rd with 29 points. Winslow got a fast PR double from Dominic Bassey [1:54.08 800, 54.22 400IH] and a win in the 100 from Jayden Poteat.

Group 4
Toms River North leads Cherokee 40-34, with Washington Township [29], Southern Regional [25] and Williamstown [20] all in the 20s.

Girls
Group 1

Salem and Audubon are locked up in a very close meet, with Salem holding a two-point lead at 53-51 going into Saturday. Audubon got wins from Riley Fayer in the 800 and 3,200 and Arianna Bittner in the 400-meter hurdles. Salem’s Karima Davenport won the long jump Friday.

Group 2
A three-team battle between Haddonfield [70], Sterling [61] and Willingboro [50]. Haddonfield got wins in the 400-meter relay and from Anna Stolarick in the 800, Ava Thomas in the 3,200, Nicolette Pinkerton in the long jump and Rebecca Hoover in the pole vaut.

Group 3
Eleven points separates five teams, with Timber Creek [45], Winslow Township [41], Mainland Regional [40], Ocean City [38] and Absegami [34] all within range of a team title. In addition to record-setting Ryan Jennings and Naylah Jones in the 100 – they ran the two-fastest times in state history – Timber Creek got a win from its 400-meter relay team.

Group 4
Washington Township holds a two-point lead over Rancocas Valley at 52-50, with Eastern not far back with 40 points. Washington Township got wins from Ella Karp in the shot put, Dahlia Beasley in the long jump and Cali Lacovara in the pole vault. R.V. doesn’t have any wins but went 2-3-4 in the intermediates for 18 points.

Central Jersey Group 1 Boys
A bonus look at Central Jersey Group 1 in Hillsborough, where Florence leads Manville 46-43 going into Saturday. Florence won the 4-by-1 with anchor Barone VanKline also winning the 100 and Darien Woody winning the triple jump.
