Malachi James cruises into 60-meter dash final at New York Nationals!!!!!!

Malachi James advanced to the 60-meter dash final at New York Nationals with a 6.82 in Sunday morning’s semifinals at the Armory.

James is No. 3 in state history with his 6.71 at the Ocean Breeze Invitational in February. Timber Creek’s Damere Byrd and Franklin Township’s Mario Heslop share the state record of 6.70, Byrd in 2011 and Heslop in 2019.

The five-fastest qualifiers all ran between 6.77 and 6.82, with Cordial Vann of Heritage High in Frisco, Texas, leading the way with that 6.77. Southern Regional’s Cole Isaac Cramer, who was 2nd to James in the Meet of Champions 55, was 2nd-fastest qualifier at 6.79.

The 60 final is scheduled for 12:39 p.m., and then James will race in the 200-meter dash final at 2:53 p.m.
