Austin Gabay runs 2nd-fastest 3,000 by a South Jersey alum, shatters Duke record, Kevin Antczak not far back with a huge PR!!!!!!!!

Austin Gabay ran the 2nd-fastest 3,000 in South Jersey history Saturday in Boston, breaking the Duke school record along the way.

Gabay, a Cinnaminson graduate, ran 7:58.94 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, lowering his PR from 8:01.79, which he ran last month on the same track.

The only faster time by a South Jersey runner is a 7:57.65 by Absegami graduate Ford Palmer in New York in January 2017.

He broke the Duke record of 7:59.84 set by Nick Dahl at the 2022 Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.

In the same race, Mainland Regional graduate Kevin Antczak, a junior at North Carolina State, ran a big PR of 8:04.87, lowering his PR more than 10 seconds from an 8:12.92 he ran two weeks ago in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Antczak’s time is No. 5 in South Jersey history. North Carolina State doesn’t have an all-time top-10 list or even school records on its web site. It barely has a web site.

Nine of the top 18 times in South Jersey history have been recorded in the last two weeks! That’s incredible!

Here’s my best attempt at an all-time South Jersey alumni 3,000 list. Who’s missing?
