Sophomore Matthew Littlehales placed 2nd in the 3,200 and 4th in the 1,600 and scored 12 points for Delsea as the Crusaders won their 7th indoor sectional title Friday at the Bubble.
Littlehales ran 9:40.15 in the 3,200 and 4:29.81 in the 1,600, and Delsea outscored Winslow Township 56-42 to win the South Jersey Group 3 championship. Highland [35], Hammonton [32 ½], Timber Creek [28] and Ocean City [26] made it six school in a 30-point range.
Delsea won South Jersey Group 2 sectional titles in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018 and 2020. This was the Crusaders’ 1st Group 3 crown.
State-wide, only Rahwah and Willingboro – with eight each – have won more sectional championships than Delsea since the inception of the indoor sectional meets in 2008. Matawan, Morris Hills and Haddonfield have also won seven. Haddonfield won its 7th on Friday.
Delsea scored 35 of its 56 points in the three field events.
Delsea picked up 15 points in the shot put, with junior Jonathan Harris winning with a meet-record 58-1 ¾ throw, senior Greg Masso taking 4th in 50-8 ½ and senior Tyler Habersham-Agbemenu picking up a point in 6th place with a 49-6. Harris smashed the meet record of 57-3 1/2 set in 2016 by Toms River East’s Dan Gilligan.
And in the pole vault, Delsea added 16 points, with senior Carlos Reyes and sophomore Mason Murray both clearing 12-6 for 2nd and 3rd and junior Henry Cifaloglio matching his PR 12-0 for 5th place.
Senior Julian Conigliaro placed 3rd in the 55-meter dash in 6.65 and senior Wayne Adair cleared 5-10 and tied for 4th in the high jump
Sophomore Quincy Matthews lowered his PR from 8.23 to 8.13 and placed 5th in the 55-meter hurdles for two big points.
Delsea also got a point in the 4-by-4, with Xavier Wyatt, Conigliaro, Quincy Matthews and Christian Langston taking 6th in 3:37.07.
Other winners were Hammonton senior Aaron Mull in a photo finish in the 55 with Pennsauken senior Elijah Jennings, who both ran 6.51, Winslow junior Jayden Poteat in the 400 [51.56], Winslow junior Dominic Bassey in the 800 [1:59.47], Highland junior distance runners Cortland Webb in the 1,600 [4:25.04] and Mason Wassell in the 3,200 [PR 9:36.61], Clearview senior Daniel Couse in the pole vault [13-6], Highland junior Jayden De Leon in the high jump [6-2].
