Another race, another record for Washington Township senior Ajani Dwyer.
Racing the 200 at the South Jersey Track Coaches Association meet at Ocean Breeze Monday evening, Dwyer ran 21.25 in his second indoor 200 ever.
That’s No. 7 in the U.S. this year according to the MileSplit national database.
Dwyer set a state record of 6.18 at the Millrose Games Trials last month and now owns both South Jersey indoor sprint records.
His time Monday is No. 5 in state history and broke the 12-year-old South Jersey record of 21.53 set by Woodbury’s Darrell Bush at the 2012 Easterns at the Armory by more than a quarter of a second.
That was the only indoor 200 Bush ever ran in high school. He went on to run 21.01 and 45.49 at LSU and was on the 4-by-400 team that won the NCAA Division 1 Championship in 2014 in Albuquerque with a 3:04.10.
Dwyer ran a wind-aided 21.47 last spring and had a wind-legal 21.55 in his first high school meet. Dwyer never ran track before last spring and only ran two meets in New Jersey in an abbreviated season.
Dywer led a 1-2 Washington Township finish with senior Logan Perez, who PR’d with a 21.08 – No. 4 in Gloucester County history. Perez’s previous PR was 22.28 at the Armory last month.
