Terrific team race Saturday by the Mainland Regional girls, who placed four finishers in the top 15 on the way to the team title in the Varsity II race at the Bowdoin Classic.
Junior Sofia Day finished 2nd in 19:13.3 and senior Gillian Lovett was 4th in 19:50.2 for Mainland, which outscored 2nd-place Mercy High of Middletown, Conn., 60-80, with Bayport (N.Y.) Blue Point 3rd with 83 points and Hunter College Campus Schools of Manhattan 4th at 84.
It was the first team race over 5,000 metres this year for Mainland, ranked 12th in New Jersey.
Junior Ava McDole placd 12th in 21:27.1, freshman Cecilia Foreman was 14th in 21:40.3 and senior Chloe Malone ran 22:07.5 for 28th. Mainland’s 6th and 7th runners – seniors Sophie Goldstein and Claudia Booth – finished 32nd and 36th. Mainland was the only school with all seven runners in the top 50.
Kingsway placed 6th with freshman Aubrey Bishop [27th in 22:07.0], sophomore Alyssa Reiter [33rd in 22:38.5], junior Rachael Wiley [35th in 22:44.3], senior Kendall Cramer [40th in 23:05.7] and junior Nicole Blum [44th in 23:14.1] in the scoring group.
