Woodbury junior Peyton Shute ran a 4:12.13 full mile Saturday night, a time that converts to 4:10.67 – the 8th-fastest in South Jersey history for 1,600 meters.
Shute placed 15th overall at West Philly Nationals at Franklin Field in a race that ended at about 11 p.m. His previous PR was a 4:12.06 for 1,600 meters at the Haddonfield Invitational last month.
Racing some of the top milers in the country, Shute was out in 62.21, 2:06.64 and 3:10.90 before closing in 61.24.
His time is No. 3 in Gloucester County history, behind Kingsway’s Kyle Rakitis [4:08.58 in 2021] and Gateway’s Mike Mantini [4:10.24 converted mile in 1979].
Shute’s official 1,500-meter split was 3:55.89, fastest official 1,500 by a South Jersey runner since Greg Pelose of Haddonfield ran 3:54.47 in 2015.
