With THREE Cinnaminson alums in the lead pack, Rowan women open season with dominating win at Stockton!!!

Three Cinnaminson graduates helped the Rowan women sweep the season-opening Stockton University Short Course XC Opener over the weekend in Galloway Township.

Rowan swept the top six spots in team scoring for a perfect 15 points, and former Cinnaminson runners took three of the top four spots.

Junior Alyssa Sanders from Pitman was the overall winner, covering the 5,000-meter course in 19:25.

Then came three straight former Pirates — sophomores Madison Edwards in 19:47 and Haley Adams in 20:18 and then freshman Emily Rooney, who never ran XC in high school, took fourth in 20:25 in what presumably was her first lifetime XC race.

Sophomore Gina Capone of Bordentown (20:40) and freshman Sha’Lynn Clarke from Glassboro (20:43) finished the 1-6 sweep for the Profs.

Stockton was led by junior Jamie Won of Moorestown, who placed seventh in 20:43. Sophomore Jessie Klenk of Sterling was ninth.

In the men’s race, senior Anthony Caruso of Eastern Regional placed third in 19:56, sophomore Kevin Lauer of Lenape was fifth in 20:00 and junior Michael Onu from Cherry Hill East was eighth in 20:07 as Rowan — ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division 3 Atlantic Region — won the team title 18-48 over second-place Stockton.

Brandon Diaz and Dario Epifania, two freshmen who were teammates at South Brunswick, ran 1-2 for the Profs in 19:53 and 19:55.

Stockton was led by junior Daniel Do out of Absegami, who placed fourth in 20:00, a fraction ahead of Lauer.

Two South Jersey runners finish in top-10 in season-opening Lehigh Invitational!!!

Rutgers senior Nick Pschunder of Eastern and Lehigh freshman Connor Melko of Bishop Eustace both finished in the top 10 Friday in the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem.

Pschunder ran 19:13 over the 6,000-meter course at Lehigh’s Saucon Valley campus and finished ninth, and Melko – making his collegiate XC debut – finished one second back in 10th place in 19:14.

Pochender was Rutgers’ first finisher. Melko was Lehigh’s seventh man, helping the Mountain Hawks win the team title with 18 points. Rutgers was second with 65 points.

In the women’s race, Shawnee graduate Kara Bonner, a Lehigh junior, helped the Mountain Hawks win the team title by one point over La Salle, 57-58. Bonner was Lehigh’s sixth runner, taking 20th overall in 23:08.45, but by finishing ahead of La Salle’s fifth runner, she helped provide the margin of victory.
