Kamron Kobolak joins elite group of throwers who’ve thrown 60 feet in the shot and 175 in the discus! We have the list!!!!!

Cinnaminson senior Kamron Kobolak became the seventh member of an elite group of South Jersey throwers this weekend when he won the discus at the South Jersey Invitational with a mammoth heave of 177-6.

That made Kobolak the seventh thrower in South Jersey history to surpass both 60 feet in the shot and 175 feet in the discus.

Kobolak threw 62-7 3/4 indoors and PR’d at 61-0 outdoors at the SJI to complete his double.

He broke Burlington County outdoor records in both throws Thursday night at Delsea and moved into the No. 2 spot in the state this year in both throws.

It’s possible that somebody back in the 1960s or 1970s reached those milestones that I don’t have a record of. If you know of anybody missing, let me know!

Rowan soph Aaniyah Robinson destroys two PRs and wins three titles in remarkable performance at NJAC championships!!!!!

Aaniyah Robinson didn’t run faster than 12.56 in the 100 meters in high school, and she didn’t even run an open 100 at her college last year.

She never ran faster than 26.04 in high school in the 200 and her fastest 200 at American International in Springfield, Mass., last year was a 26.78 that earned her 18th place in her conference meet indoors.

Look at her now!

She’s a conference champion at both 100 meters and 200 meters, ranked 12th in NCAA Division 3 in the 100 and 29th in the 200 going into the NCAA Championships and anchor of one of the nation’s fastest 400-meter relay teams!!!

Robinson, a Rowan sophomore who grew up in Totowa and graduated in 2016 from Passaic County Tech in Wayne, had a tremendous NJAC meet this weekend, winning the 100 in a huge personal-best 12.06, also winning the 200 with a big PR of 25.12 and anchoring Rowan’s winning 400-meter relay team.

Whew.

Robinson’s 100 PR before Sunday was a 12.45 from a meet last month at Moravian, and her 200 PR was a 25.62 from a meet last month at Widener.

Let’s take a look at her performance this weekend:

100-METER DASH: Robinson PR’d in the trials with a 12.26 into a 0.4 meters-per-second wind and then led a 1-2-3 Rowan sweep in the finals with a huge PR of 12.06. Sidney McLeod-Whitener, a Philly native who ran at Friends Central, placed second in 12.39 and Danielle Cross of Matawan third in 12.40. Robinson ran within 1-10th of a second of the Rowan school record of 11.96, set two years ago by Pemberton graduate Shailah Williams.

200-METER DASH: Robinson again led all qualifiers with a 25.73 in the trials and again led three Lady Profs into the finals, with a PR of 25.12. Myiah Sturdivant, a freshman out of Timber Creek, ran second in 25.17 and Cross was fifth in 25.65 for Rowan.

400-METER RELAY: Cross, Aspen McMillan of South Brunswick (who had won the high hurdles) and McLeod-Whitener ran the first three legs to set up Robinson’s anchor. Rowan’s 47.58 is No. 11 in NCAA Division 3 this year.

The Rowan women outscored Stockton by 29 1/3 points, winning the team title 242.83-213.50, with The College of New Jersey third at 207.33.

Rowan has won five of the last seven team titles, losing only to TCNJ in 2014 and Stockton last year.

How did two triple jumpers from Gloucester County decide a college conference championship? Here’s the amazing story!!!

The Central Athletic Collegiate Conference men’s track championships came down to one event, and two Gloucester County natives led the way with huge performances.

With only the triple jump remaining in the CACC meet at Georgian Court in Lakewood Sunday, Bloomfield University led Georgian Court by three points, 184 ½-181 ½.

The team title was on the line, and both schools had their triple jumpers come up big.

Georgian Court sophomore Devin Martin, a Williamstown native and graduate of Holy Spirit, won the event with a personal-best and school-record 45-9 for 10 big points, and sophomore teammate DeShawn Lamar-Baldwin, a Bridgeton graduate, also scored, taking seventh at 42-11 on his only legal jump of the competition.

But Bloomfield got the points it needed to win the team title when freshman Ja’haud Lowber, a Deptford graduate, jumped an outdoor-PR 45-3 1/2 on his final attempt to move up from sixth to second.

Those six points delivered the team title to Bloomfield, 196 ½-192 ½.

Georgian Court sophomore Kennedy Omari from Cherry Hill East placed eighth, giving South Jersey four of the top spots in the event!

Martin’s previous PR was a 44-2 ¼ set indoors this past winter at a meet at Lehigh. Lowber’s PR is 45-10 ¾ from a meet at Ramapo in March.

Martin broke the school outdoor record of 44-4 ½, set last year by Lamar-Baldwin at a meet at The College of New Jersey. His previous outdoor PR was 44-1 ¾. Omari is the school record indoors at 44-3 ½ from a meet this past winter at the Ocean Breeze facility.

There were a bunch of remarkable performances by South Jersey athletes in this meet and we’ll write about a bunch of them in the next few days!

Four South Jersey alums team up for Rowan to sweep top four spots in NJAC 400-meter dash final!!!!!

Rowan made quite an impressive statement in the 400-meter dash Sunday at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.

Sophomore Francis Terry from Sterling High led a remarkable 1-2-3-4 sweep that generated 29 team points [10-8-6-5] as Rowan won its fourth straight team title, the Profs’ longest streak of outdoor NJAC team titles since they won 18 straight from 1975 through 1992 as Glassboro State.

And all four Rowan quarter-milers are South Jersey natives, two from Atlantic County and two from Camden County.

Terry won the are in 48.54, followed by freshman Justin Bishop of Mainland Regional in 49.07, freshman Hunter Barbieri from Egg Harbor Township in 49.20 and senior Jamil Jackson of Highland in 49.30.

Another freshman, Vincent Delle of Old Bridge, wasn’t far back, finishing sixth in 50.15, giving Rowan 32 total points in one event.

The Profs won the team title 277-135 over Stockton.

Later, Terry, Jackson, Bishop and Barbieri teamed up to easily win the 1,600-meter relay in 3:17.23. Rowan is ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division 3 in the 4-by-4 at 3:11.99.

Terry has run 48.22 this spring, and  Jackson ran 48.81 last spring, but the two other times are PRs. Bishop lowered his from 49.74 to 49.07 and Barbieri from 50.03 to 49.20. Delle ran 49.65 earlier this spring.

Terry was also third in the 200.

George Mason freshman Avory Ransome wins A-10 shot put title with final-throw bomb!!!!!

Penns Grove High graduate Avory Ransome, a freshman at George Mason, won the Atlantic 10 shot put title Sunday with an outdoor PR 50-7 1/2.

Ransome became the first George Mason thrower ever to win an A-10 shot put title indoors or outdoors.

Ransome had a very consistent series, averaging 48-7 3/4 with the 16-pound shot on his six throws at George Mason’s stadium in Fairfax, Va.

The Pedricktown native, seeded No. 3, opened at 49-5 1/2 to secure a spot in the finals, then finished the first round with a 47-10 3/4 and a 48-6 1/4.

In the finals, he opened with a 45-4 1/4 and was sitting in seventh place when he popped a 50-2 on his fifth throw to move into second. He then locked up the win with the 50-7 1/2 on his final throw, winning by 5 1/2 inches over Rhode Island’s Ryan Roger.

Ransome, fifth in the indoor A-10 meet in Kingston, R.I., surpassed his previous outdoor PR of 49-8. He threw 51-5 1/4 indoors at the Father Diamond Invite at GMU’s indoor facility.

Ransome also scored in the hammer throw this weekend, placing eighth with a personal-best 152-0. His previous best hammer was a 143-4 at a meet at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Ransome graduated from Penns Grove with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society and the school’s salutatorian.

He threw 55-11 1/2 with the 12-pound ball at Penns Grove (where his name was generally spelled “A-V-E-R-Y”) and was twice a runner-up in the state Group 1 meet in the shot.

Timber Creek soph Tierra Hooker displays her remarkable versatility with record-setting pentathlon win at Rowan Open!!!!!

Timber Creek sophomore Tierra Hooker showed off her remarkable versatility this weekend with a terrific performance to win the pentathlon at the Rowan Open at Washington Township High School.

Hooker scored a meet-record 3,407 points to win the two-day, five-event pentathlon by nearly 600 points over another sophomore, Haddonfield’s Rachel Bonnet.

Hooker broke the meet record of 3,305 points set in 2007 by Priscilla Frederick of Paul VI, who grew up in Sicklerville and went on to become a three-time All-America high jumper for St. John’s and was seventh in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.

Let’s take a look at Hooker’s performance:

100-METER HURDLES: Hooker scored 834 points with a 15.06, fastest time this year in South Jersey and a big PR over her 15.46 at last year’s Olympic Conference meet. It’s also No. 7 in New Jersey this year and No. 3 among sophomores. Courtney James of Burlington Township had the second-fastest hurdles time in the meet at 15.75, but Hooker already led the field by 89 points. The open 100 hurdles Friday was won by Kassidy Mulrayne of Allentown in 15.10, so Hooker ran faster in the pentathlon hurdles than anybody in the open hurdles.

SHOT PUT: Hooker picked up 447 points by throwing 28-8, the third-best mark of the competition. Millville’s Hailey Holmes had the best throw of the day at 31-0 1/2. Hooker’s 447 points gave her 1,281 through two events and a lead of 204 points over James, who was second with 1,077 points after the shot.

HIGH JUMP: If there were any doubt who would win before the high jump there wasn’t after it. Hooker cleared 5-8 on her first attempt to score 891 big points for 2,172 through three events. Hooker passed the first 11 heights and then cleared 5-1 3/4 and 5-4 on her first attempt and 5-6 on her second. After clearing 5-8 she called it a day. Hooker’s 5-8 equals the No. 1 mark in New Jersey this year. She cleared 5-10 at last year’s Meet of Champions and this past indoor season at the Ocean Breeze Invite. Hooker’s 5-8 actually would have tied the meet record in the open high jump. Brianna Hunt of Delsea cleared 5-8 in 2010. Bonnet cleared 5-0 for 644 points and moved into second with 1,684 points after Day 1.

LONG JUMP: Day 2 begins with the long jump, where Hooker went 17-5 3/4 on her third and final attempt for 651 points to give her a four-event total of 2,823. Hooker is gifted in so many events she doesn’t long jump very often, but she did break her PR of 17-5 1/2, set at last year’s Camden County Championships at Haddon Township. Her mark is No. 5 in South Jersey this year. Holmes had the next-best jump at 16-6 for 567 points, but Bonnet remained in second place with 2,158 points.

800-METER RUN: Holmes led all the half-milers with a 2:27.72, but Hooker’s 2:39.07 earned her 584 points for a final total of 3,407, and Bonnet’s 2:32.64 gave her 660 points for 2,818 and second place, about 100 points ahead of third-place Carly Roche of Allentown.

FINAL SCORING
1. Tierra Hooker [Timber Creek] 3,407
2. Rachel Bonnet [Haddonfield] 2,818
3. Carly Roche [Allentown] 2,705
4. Hailey Holmes [Millville] 2,672
5. Courtney James [Burlington Twp.] 2,654
6. Darien Rinn [Middletown North] 2,623
7. Katelyn Reid [Middletown North] 2,483

10. Armanee DeBarry [Millville] 1,767

Stockton’s Keith Holland records huge PR to win NJAC pole vault title as a freshman!!!!!

Stockton freshman Keith Holland cleared 15 feet for the first time in his life to win the pole vault at this weekend’s New Jersey Athletic Conference championships at The College of New Jersey in Ewing.

Holland surpassed his PR of 14-3 1/4, which he accomplished at a meet at his home track in Galloway Township last month.

Holland completed an indoor-outdoor NJAC double. He won the indoor title at 13-11 at Ocean Breeze back in February.

Holland’s best at Central Regional in Bayville was a 14-foot clearance at last year’s Ocean County Championships at Jackson Liberty, which he won.

He’s now the No. 8 freshman in NCAA Division 3.

Holland is the first to clear 15 feet at the NJAC meet since 2013, when Joe Oliveri of Ramapo won with a 15-3 clearance.

Pleasantville and Burlington Township boys win S.J. Relays sprint meds with fastest times this year in S.J.!!!!!

Pleasantville and Burlington Township ran the two-fastest sprint medleys of the year by South Jersey schools at the South Jersey Relays Saturday at Rancocas Valley.

Pleasantville won the small-school race by 90 meters over Oakcrest in 3:34.86, and Burlington Township won the large-school race by 45 meters over Millville in 3:35.57.

Pleasantville has run faster — 3:32.75 at the 2013 Woodbury Relays — but the time is believed to be a school record for Burlington Township (did the Falcons run slightly faster in the late 1960s with Rickey Jacques on the 800 or in the 1990s with Shaun Davis anchoring?)

Junior Quentin Bundy, sophomores Keon Henry and Gabriel Moronta and junior Sahmir Jones ran for Pleasantville.

Senior Daniel Mends, sophomores Semi Robertson and Donovan Wright and senior Jalen Jones ran for Burlington Township.

If you have splits, please share them!
