The Egg Harbor 3,200-meter relay team, denied a chance to run at states or the Meet of Champions because of a DQ at sectionals, destroyed the South Jersey record Saturday with a second-place at Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.
Details are not yet available. The official results don’t list who ran which legs, but all four EHT splits were 1:56.XX or faster, including a 1:53 on the third leg.
Egg was in seventh place after the leadoff legs but moved into second on the second leg and stayed there the rest of the race.
It’s not clear who won. The results list “Cow Harbor” from New York but there isn’t a Cow Harbor High School in New York state.
It’s likely Northport, which had run 7:42 at the New York State championships earlier this month and is located near Cow Harbor, N.Y.
In any case, Egg Harbor’s likely runners were Robert Dessoye, Alex Dessoye, Aidin Hendriks and Eric Barnes.
Egg broke the South Jersey and Atlantic County records of 7:40.71 set in 2013 by Pleasantville. The Eagles’ time is No. 8 in state history. Egg’s previous best was its 7:47.13 at the Penn Relays.
More details as we get them! But congrats to the Egg Harbor Township Eagles on the greatest 4-by-8 in South Jersey history!!!
